COLUMBIA | The linebackers at the Prep Redzone Exposure Showcase at Richland Northeast had a tall task. They ran through their usual drills, but then they were matched up in passing competition with RBs and no help, covering one-on-one. They did a good job of that all the way around. Here's a look at some of the standouts from the group.

The 2027 group was a good one. Westwood's [player_tooltip player_id='2212349' first='Elijah' last='Smith'] (pictured) has got size, speed, and great footwork. He looked good in drills with a quick change of direction, and covered well in the competition period. [player_tooltip player_id='1763266' first='Brayden' last='Harris'] made 74 tackles for May River last season, and it's easy to see why. He showed great lateral movement and really good instincts in drills and competition. Newberry's [player_tooltip player_id='1771835' first='Caleb' last='Johnson'] had a quick turn-and-go, and looked good in coverage against some speedy backs. And Chapin's [player_tooltip player_id='1811070' first='Parker' last='Collins'] showed off some excellent footwork, first in the shuttle and then in drills, as he looked good taking a drop, reacting to the ball, and finding exactly where he needed to be.

Two linebackers from the 2028 class stood out at the camp. Woodmont's [player_tooltip player_id='1638160' first='Trey' last='Fults'] was a big contributor for the Wildcats last year, and more of expected of him this season. He showed good instincts and quickness, particularly in drills. Chapin's [player_tooltip player_id='2182096' first='Caleb' last='Kreitzer'] was one of the guys singled out by camp staff for his performance. He showed all the speed and great reaction you'd expect from an OLB, and looks capable of playing with plenty of power as well.

Three guys who were at the end of their freshman year also looked good. Lexington's CJ Long and Catawba Ridge's [player_tooltip player_id='2155277' first='Sheldon' last='Erickson'] already have LB bodies at more than 6-feet and nearly 200 pounds, and both zipped through drills and showed plenty of mobility. Hillcrest's [player_tooltip player_id='1937870' first='Quintarius' last='Scott'] has outstanding quickness, particularly in change of direction, and gets to the ball well.
