Two-Way NE 2027s Deserving Of More Attention

I'm hopping into the film room to check out some of the hidden gems that we uncovered while updating the 2027 class rankings. In this feature, I'm checking out five prospects who have flashed upside on both sides of the ball and should be receiving more looks on the recruiting trail.   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />    <a href="https://x.com/LukeWellman66" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">(@LukeWellman66)</a>   Columbus Lakeview's [player_tooltip player_id='1192417' first='Luke' last='Wellman'] is a prospect who combines polish, production, and three years of varsity starting experience. Luke started on both the offensive and defensive line, posting 40 tackles, two TFLs, two sacks, and a fumble recovery, with his higher upside coming on offense. Luke stands out immediately with next-level size at 6'3 and 290 pounds with the power to match the frame. He plays with great balance and consistent pad level, which helps him maintain good leverage against his opponent. Wellman's mobility also stood out on tape as he demonstrated good footwork and the ability to get out in space to block on screens or when clearing out the second level. Great pop in his hands when making contact. Luke is also a great finisher with the mean streak to drive until his opponent is in the dirt. We don't have a full junior-year film for Luke, but we are looking forward to checking it out!      <a href="https://x.com/Michael57576499" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">(@Michael57576499)</a>   We'll stay in the Columbus area to check out Scotus Central Catholic's [player_tooltip player_id='1699007' first='Michael' last='Brandt'], who is another player with massive upside on both sides of the ball at either tight end or linebacker. Michael had a big junior season in which he led the team in receiving yards and was second in tackles, ending the year with 18 catches, 299 receiving yards, five touchdowns, 69 tackles, three TFLs, a sack, and two blocked kicks. Michael has a projectable frame for either position at 6'4" and 220 pounds with room to continue filling out his frame. Offensively, Michael is a massive target who can "out-physical" DBs and is more athletic than the majority of linebackers he's facing. He can fully extend to get the most out of his catch radius and does a great job adjusting his body to the ball. Brandt's concentration and hands are some of the best among this class's TE group, with big mitts that seem to catch anything near him. Solid blocker in the run game. On defense, Michael flashes a great first step out of his stance and the motor to stay in pursuit from snap to whistle. He can hold the edge well and was great at defending the run.      <a href="https://x.com/gburki07" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">(@gburki07)</a>   Papillion-La Vista South's [player_tooltip player_id='1296774' first='Gage' last='Burki'] is a player who went somewhat under the radar on a stacked Class A runner-up roster. Gage brought a mean streak to the trenches as a key player on the offensive and defensive line. On the defensive side, Gage tallied 38 tackles, 10.5 TFLs, 3.5 sacks, two blocked kicks, and a forced fumble, and might have the higher ceiling in this phase of the game. Burki's ability to explode off the ball and either turn that into a powerful rush or use it to set up a quick speed move was very impressive on film. Gage's excellent hand usage is also huge when disengaging from opponents, allowing him to either perform a swim/swipe move or land an accurate jab to stun blockers. He plays with surprising twitch that comes from shifty footwork and can get good bend when rushing off the edge. Gage's motor really shines when he's able to spill into the backfield to show off his great closing speed to the ball carrier and lateral quickness to track down scrambling QBs. On offense, Gage brings that same fiery energy to the field as a mauler in the run game and a great finisher overall. UNK has already offered the Titan's DL/OL prospect, and we should expect to see more soon!      <a href="https://x.com/21pickzz" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">(@21pickzz)</a>   Boys Town's [player_tooltip player_id='1512466' first='Jayden' last='Cook'] is a very interesting player in this recruiting cycle and one of the hidden gems out of the Omaha area. Jayden had a tremendous junior season in which he was the team's leading rusher with 107 carries for 804 yards and five touchdowns, as well as second in tackles with 52 total tackles, nine TFLs, a sack, and a fumble recovery. As a runner, Jayden displays great balance and strength in his base, which allows him to break through weak arm tackles. He flashes a great burst as he hits his hole and has the speed to break away once he's hit the open road. Great vision and subtle cutback ability to hit new lanes. On defense, Jayden is listed as an LB, but I could see him using his athleticism to fill into a versatile LB/S hybrid role. He has a strong, sturdy frame at 6'1" and 190 pounds with underrated strength to take on blockers at the line of scrimmage. Jayden's well-rounded skill set at LB helps him perform a number of duties, including rushing the QB, defending the run, and playing in coverage. He is very instinctive with a high football IQ that allows him to key in on the run or pass in a flash and will break on the ball immediately. Very physical at the point of contact— won't hesitate to bring the boom. Look out for Jayden this offseason... he could be a summer riser!      <a href="https://x.com/MatthewOtt73427" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">(@MatthewOtt73427)</a>   The Antlers didn't have the season they hoped for last year, but will have the pieces to turn it around this fall with players like [player_tooltip player_id='1192650' first='Matthew' last='Ott'] leading the charge. Matthew is a dynamic receiver and DB who erupted with 32 catches, 578 yards, and 4 receiving touchdowns, while also recording 19 tackles, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery on defense. Matthew proved to be quite the deep-ball threat, with three receiving touchdowns over 60 yards (88 long), displaying his explosiveness and ability to stretch defenses vertically. He is also capable of working the short and intermediate areas of the field using his clean route running to create separation. Ott possesses solid length, which he uses well to maximize his catch radius and make catches outside his frame. He has strong hands to secure passes at the catch point and can be physical with DBs when going up for jump balls. Matthew has also shown a high ceiling on defense, playing with great fluidity in coverage and using his ball skills to disrupt passes at the catch point.
