Spring Practice Report: Cathedral

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This morning we were on the ground at Cathedral High School to get an in-person look at several up-and-coming prospects for the Irish, who are looking to make a deep run into the IHSAA state tournament this fall. The Irish lost to eventual state champion New Palestine last season by a 20-15 score, and are looking to bounce back in big ways in 2026. He is a talented and strong cover corner with terrific ball skills, very physical and feisty use-of-hands. He is also very good against the run, taking great pursuit angles, squaring up and tackling with great technique without breaking contain. He will play on both sides of the ball in 2026. High-upside prospect. Shannon takes great angles to the ball, wraps up, can shed blocks and quickly reach and wreck havoc on opposing QBs and RBs. While he is on the shorter side, he has long arms and a muscular, rocked-up frame. Scott, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound safety, takes great pursuit angles. He flashes good range and flows to the ball, above-average closing speed, very instinctive and quick to read-and-react. Also a strong coverage defender on kickoffs. Has added bulk over the offseason. Knowles flashes a quick release and a smooth delivery. Throws a nice, on-time, accurate deep ball with good touch and velocity over the middle of the field. Very mobile Q who can roll out and throw on the move. Flashes being able to make tough throws with defenders in his face. Keeps growing. Trained by Anthony Morelli. Whereas Scott and Shannon are more drag-down guys, Nelson can be a thumper, denting back opposing RBs and delivering heavy hits. Plays with good bend, leverage, and has a very high motor. Good backside edge rusher who can really hit the quarterback.
