The proverbial sand in the hourglass continues to pour through unabated and with it goes opportunity for the players who have chosen to do other things rather than embrace the off-season grind.

For the three or four sport guys it is often a bandwidth issue as there is only so much time in the day. Others are confident in their natural abilities and either train sporadically, or forgo it altogether.

My approach is to skip the guys who don't commit to the off-season grind. I'd rather spend my time following guys who are passionate about the game and their specific craft.

In this report we are taking a look at five players from all of the returning classes who are taking the off-season grind seriously and the time and effort is already reaping dividends.

Starting with a couple of ballers from the class of '29, we will also touch base with a handful of upperclassmen ready for big seasons this fall.

So, without further adieu, let's check out what these guys have been doing so far in 2026:

[player_tooltip player_id='2127996' first='Xzavier' last='Delatorre'], 6'0, 180, ATH, SW Heights, '29, (PICTURED ABOVE) first up is one I covered recently playing 7v7 with the Kansas Colts. He is coming off a sizzling freshman season on both sides of the ball. As a RB/WR he piled up 600+ yards on rushing, receiving and kick returns to go along with five touchdowns. On defense he was in beast-mode all year as a hybrid LB/DB, making 90+ tackles, five tackles for a loss, three sacks, one interception and a pair of fumble recoveries. He also handles punting duties as needed. In the off-season he is a three-sport athlete playing hoops and running track to go along with football. He has adjusted to varsity play quickly at a young age, using great instincts, versatile athleticism and a playmaker attitude on both sides of the ball. This guy has had a strong off-season and is getting ready to bring the fireworks this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='2175959' first='Omar' last='Lamrani'], 6'0, 175, QB/ATH, Olathe South, '29, next up for the sophomores-to-be is a quarterback who has been flying under the radar somewhat but is getting ready to change that in the near future. Last season he got acclimated to the varsity game and picked up good experience that will help him this fall. A dual-threat QB, he is dangerous extending plays and throws well on the run going either direction. He has good ball placement in the short-to-medium game and can also launch the deep ball when needed. Once the season came to a close he shifted gears to training for the next season, lifting hard in the weight room and doing speedwork. He is also currently running the sprints in track for the Falcons. His work is paying off as he has put on 15 pounds while getting faster. Get this promising young gun on your '26 watchlist.

[player_tooltip player_id='1677993' first='Carter' last='Lewis'], 6'4, 260, OL/C, Eudora, '28, coming off a strong sophomore season as a three-sport baller and versatile offensive lineman, he can play anywhere across the front but really shined at RT. With prototype size, reach and quickness he is a violent blocker in the run game as well as using his quick feet and weaponized hands to effectively seal off in pass pro. Once the season was over he played hoops and started lifting three days a week. Additionally, he started working twice a week with O-line coach Chris Gomez in KC as well as Sundays with Mike Kelly in Lawrence. He is even finding time to throw the shot and disc for the Cardinal track team and has an uber-aggressive camp schedule this summer. With his D1 frame and athleticism he has been getting a lot of attention, including Oklahoma State, KU and North Dakota State. This guy is going to dominate this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1556861' first='Wes' last='Riegel'], 6'3”, 195, WR/ATH, Blue Valley North, ‘27, up first for the seniors is a versatile playmaker I covered earlier in the year and have been impressed with his busy off-season. He is a hybrid receiver who can line up as a traditional TE, slide to the slot, split out as a wide receiver or line up as an H-back. With next-level size and burst, he creates separation quickly before rolling into precise routes. His large catch radius and skills high-pointing the ball in traffic make him an asset creating mismatches. He is also an excellent stalk blocker on the perimeter. His off-season has been aggressive, training with Harper Island Speed Training and connecting with numerous D1 and D2's as well as several Ivy League schools. He just returned from South Dakota and has a busy summer of camps coming up. This guy is getting ready for a big season this fall.

Max Worrell, 6'3, 245, LT/DE, Kapaun, '27, and for the final senior-to-be slot we have a two-way trench warrior who was a part of last year's 4A State Championship team. He is versatile along the offensive front but where he has really been impressing scouts and coaches is on the defensive side of the ball. With a next-level frame, power and quickness, he can handle business as a 3-tech or slide out as a defensive end/edge rusher. Coming off the edge he is a ball-buster who can shut down his side of the field. Once the season was over he immediately started off-season training with Coach Tabor and PIA and the time and effort is paying off as he has put on 20 pounds while getting faster. He is currently playing baseball and will continue over the summer in addition to training with PIA. This baller is going to make some noise this fall.

In conclusion, get out and see these guys this fall, you will not be disappointed. Also, if you know of any players not getting any/not enough coverage that they deserve, please feel free to DM me via X so we can take care of that!

And, most importantly...

Keep Grindin'
