As customary with my event coverage, I feverishly write as many notes as I can, as quickly as I can, in order to report on as many prospects as I can. In this feature from Prep Redzone Next's New Jersey Exposure Camp, I share my positional notes for the group aforementioned in this article's title. More coverage on different groups will be forthcoming in the days to follow, so be sure to check back later!

Quarterback Notebook

Quarterbacks at the middle school age band are a big hard to judge, in my opinion, due to the fact that there is such a disparity in size. That said, the one prevailing thing that translates are mechanics. Despite being a 5'5" 8th grader, [player_tooltip player_id='2047600' first='James' last='Trey Call III'] certainly has taken coaching seriously. Given his size, I was honestly surprised to see that he got as much mustard on his throws as he did. The more I watched him, the more I realized that Call does an excellent job of transferring his weight in order to maximize that velocity... Another tactician and stickler for mechanics seemed to be [player_tooltip player_id='1607213' first='Kamden' last='Planz']. Planz, a 2030 graduate, looked like one of the more natural born quarterbacks in attendance. From how he stepped into his throws, to how the ball came off of his hand, to how quickly he got the ball out - Planz is one of this kids that seems to have the mechanical side of the game down. Sprinkle a bit of coaching and how to watch film in the mix, and we might have a hidden gem of a prospect on our hands in a few short years.

Quarterbacks need to be leaders of their team - not just with their play, but also with how they conduct themselves and uplift their teammates. [player_tooltip player_id='1583397' first='RJ' last='Finlaw'] has that skillset. I saw him throw an absolute gem of a deep ball. Unfortunately the receiver, by error of their own admission, could not convert on what seemed destined to be an outstanding throw. This failed conversion caused Finlaw to sulk a bit. As the leader of the offense, I expect him to bring out the best in his teammates and uplift them next fall as he enters his freshman season of high school... On the other end of the spectrum we find [player_tooltip player_id='2086871' first='Logan' last='Fabian']. Named a top performer at his position, the 6'1" 183lb 8th grader is blessed with a shotgun for an arm. Every which way I looked, it seems as though Fabian was beaming the ball all across the lot. For certain, Fabian has raw skills that will have coaches oozing over.

We close out today's coverage with a 6th grader, and a damn good one at that. [player_tooltip player_id='1782095' first='Mason' last='Edelman'], a 5'5" 165lber who graduates in 2032 is, typically, a prospect I would overlook; however, the way he throws the ball had me breaking my neck to see who threw that. Edelman's passes were extremely catchable with tight spirals and good placement. I thought that he waited just a second too long to get the ball out, especially on routes to the flat, but I am confident that Edelman's timing will improve as he ages and gets more reps with teammates and not fellow, random campers.
