We're still 6 months away from the 2026 season, but there's no better time to predict breakout stars during the offseason who have flashed in the past but haven't fully broken out yet. The transfer landscape has yet to be finalized, which may impact some of these predictions in the future. However, here is one player from each school, listed in alphabetical order, that we believe will have a breakout season.

Independence ATH [player_tooltip player_id='1716452' first='Paxton' last='Myers'] is one of the more intriguing long-term pieces in a strong 2029 class for the Patriots. Coming into high school with a quarterback background, he was asked to shift around and even take snaps at running back on varsity, and he handled it the way you want a young player: composed, competitive, and productive when his number was called. The burst and short-area quickness show up immediately, and there's a natural feel for the game that makes his versatility believable, not forced. With Independence graduating its top rusher, the offseason becomes important for Myers as he continues to add strength and settles into a more defined role. If he embraces that opportunity and continues developing physically, he has the tools to grow from a talented freshman contributor into a centerpiece playmaker over the next few seasons.

[player_tooltip player_id='2130019' first='Kadyn' last='Hines'] is one of the more intriguing athletes in the 2027 class, and the arrow is pointing up heading into his senior year at James Monroe. At 6'5, 170 with a WVU baseball commitment already in his pocket, the frame and multi-sport background immediately grab your attention. He led the Mavericks with 31 catches for 616 yards and 7 touchdowns as a junior, and there's reason to believe there's still another jump coming as he continues to grow into his body. Long-levered athletes like Hines tend to make significant strides once the strength catches up, and that's the next phase for him this offseason. If he adds functional weight, you're looking at a prospect who could become a household name in WV for football as well.

Jefferson's [player_tooltip player_id='2064380' first='Andy' last='Roberts'] made it hard to ignore him this past fall, and that's why he now sits at the top of the 2028 linebacker board. The sophomore didn't just flash; he produced, and he did it on both sides of the ball. At linebacker, the instincts and range showed up consistently, and as the season wore on, he became a real factor offensively, stringing together several strong outings at running back while also logging snaps at safety. That kind of versatility isn't common, especially in a young player who's still growing into his frame. The next step is pretty clear: continue adding size and strength without sacrificing the movement skills that separate him. If the physical development matches the competitive edge and playmaking feel he's already shown, Roberts won't just hold that top spot; he'll widen the gap and head into his junior year as one of the more complete two-way prospects in the class.

[player_tooltip player_id='2076798' first='Landen' last='Snyder'] did what you want to see from a junior stepping into a featured role in 2025: he delivered, and he did it every week. The John Marshall standout put up 64 catches for 1,058 yards while still giving you 62 tackles and three interceptions on the other side of the ball, which speaks to both his conditioning and his competitive makeup. He's a natural hands catcher with strong ball skills and a feel for tracking it down the field, and that production now has him firmly in our Top 10 at receiver in the 2027 class. If he keeps stacking development on top of that junior year, Snyder is going to solidify himself as a legitimate college prospect and potentially push that ceiling even higher.

[player_tooltip player_id='1624361' first='Dominik' last='Crawford'] is heading into his junior year at Keyser with a real opportunity in front of him. Even going back to the limited flashes from his freshman tape, you could see a young back who was physically ahead of the curve, well put together, balanced through contact, and comfortable running both inside and on the perimeter. As a sophomore, he showed his versatility, contributing at receiver and defensive back while handling spot duty in the backfield, which only adds to his overall profile. Now, with Keyser graduating its top rusher, the backfield reps are there for the taking. This offseason will be about locking into that role, continuing to build strength, and proving he can handle a consistent workload. If he does, Crawford has the tools to move from intriguing underclassman to one of the more talked-about running backs in the 2028 group.
