Minnesota does a lot of things well in the prep sports space, but what I really think the Land of 10,000 Lakes does uniquely successfully is produce high-level multi-sport athletes at the high school level. To reinforce this belief, PRZMN is diving into a Multi-Sport Special Series while we are knees deep in updating the 2027 Big Board. Up first: wrestling! We'll be doing three installments of the wrestling series to round the week, beginning with some must-know football/wrestling hybrids from Minnesota's Class A ranks. State tourney will be here in no time, get to know these standouts now!

One of the hottest names in the 2028 class, Roseau Ram Toby Bryan had a strong sophomore campaign Way Up North, catching the attention of PRZMN around sections while picking up some serious college coaching connections and follows on social media due to his efforts. Bryan's deep in the race for the never-ending race to find the Next Great Minnesota Linemen, already earning an unofficial junior day visit invite from North Dakota, which he attended late in January, kickstarting what could develop into a big-time recruitment as a young sophomore still early into his prep development. I'm itching to get an in-person view of this dude moving and working, as are a boatload of college coaches, so this summer and even potentially spring workouts will be a big indicator of if/when things get big for Bryan recruiting-wise.

In the meantime, Bryan has been tearing things up on the wrestling mat, entering The Guillotine's Class A rankings at their latest update on January 22nd, coming in ranked #10 after building some serious steam this winter. Looking into it, Bryan qualified for the 2024 NYWA Youth state tournament in middle school, and as a freshman last wrestling season, reached the podium at sections and nearly qualified for state, I'm assuming at heavyweight. We just broke down Bryan's game on the gridiron in a recent recruiting-focused feature highlighting stock rising OL names on the recruiting trail, where we noted: "The 6'7 sophomore is a crushing force at the contact point off the snap as a run blocker while also showing lateral explosiveness and is able to reach DEs and set the edge from his LT spot, with that aforementioned nasty streak showing up all over his 2 minute highlight tape. In addition to the great balance, length, and physicality, Bryan, especially for an Outstate underclassman, owns the base, balance, footwork, and heavy-hands of a high-quality foundation in pass protection, and he brings his signature aggression to pass protection reps." Could be a huge name to watch out of the traditional hockey powerhouse Way Up North.

One of the PRZMN's favorite performers and prospects from the 2025 MN Prep Bowl tournament, [player_tooltip player_id='1580586' first='Ethan' last='O'Reilly'] played off his rocker in Goodhue's downright electric 20-15 loss in the 2025 Class AA state championship to Jackson County Central, echoing what was an eye-popping junior campaign for the two-way, three-phase lineman. O'Reilly posted 154 total tackles, 35 TFLs, and 5 FFs in 13 games of the 2025 season, and to sweeten the pot as a prospect, the heavyweight wrestler is currently ranked #2 in Class A's 285-pound class, with another Top 10 opponent in his section and standing in his path to a section crown and state qualification.

Obvious both in person and in his 2025 regular season tape, O'Reilly's most in-your-face trait is his nonstop, balls-to-the-wall motor, as shown by the total tackle count, and the DL is a natural turnover machine, as you can see from the FF statistics from 2025. Positionally versatile, O'Reilly displays a strong, balanced base that is efficient through contact, both when working through blocking attempts in run and pass defense settings or when setting the edge. He also demonstrates an impressive pass-rushing skillset with natural bend, quickness, and power, and you can also see O'Reilly successfully string together pass-rush moves and consistently threaten offensive tackles to either shoulder. At 275 pounds, the Goodhue product owns the speed to pursue and run down QBs and WRs out on the edge and to the sideline, a ton of twitch, and is a bull at the contact point. O'Reilly is about to tear up the summer camp trail, that much I can be certain of recruiting-wise with him.

Sticking with the Class A heavyweight 285 rankings, as we have some new beef and a new name entering the fold out of Class AA Rushford-Peterson in 6'2, 230 lb. OG/NG Chace Drazkowski. The two-way standout for the Trojans doubles as a Top 10 ranked 285 lber. for the wrestling team, currently sitting at #6 in Class 285A with [player_tooltip player_id='1580586' first='Ethan' last='O'Reilly'] sitting in his way of a Section 1 crown later this month.

Although he only has two games of highlights on his Hudl account, both of which are from the 2024 season, you can still gleam that the kid has great hand usage and can shock and shed in run defense and really take the fight to the OL. Drazkowski wins at the contact point, both in block defeat as well as a tackler, and he owns a great get-off and identifies and triggers on the ball with exciting game speed. The then-sophomore has a great rep against Fillmore Central as a DT where he explodes out of his stance, brings his hips, stones an attempted double team, who backtrack so hard that they stuff the RB, who runs into their backs on an attempted goal line push for an impressively strong & physical TFL. He also opened up some big holes for his RBs and showed some mobility and technical ability in pass pro for a small school OL, bringing some real-deal two-way utility to his resume as a multi-sport standout! Can't wait to see how Class A's, Section 1 285 lb. tourney shakes out.

I am heavily considering making Caledonia's imposing linebacker Cooper Allen the #1 prospect in Minnesota's 2028 class, and his 2025-26 wrestling season is only making the choice easier. Currently ranked 5th at Class A 215 pounds, Allen sprinted out of the gates to a 14-1 record in the 2025-26 season, and he also placed 5th at the heavyweight Bi-State wrestling tournament in La Crosse, going 5-2 on the weekend to really put that "iron sharpens iron" mantra to the test.

A darling of the 2025 Summer Camp SZN, Allen absolutely blew the roof off the South Dakota State prospect camp in June, which included a testing performance so impressive that I'm going to keep it close to the vest! Allen transitioned to the football field beautifully, finishing Caledonia's 12 game 2025 campaign with 114 tackles, 2 sacks, and 2 FFs, according to MNFootballHub, up there with the top in the state for total tackles last fall. Although he only has two games of 2025 highlights up on his Hudl, Allen still displays nose for the ball and can make 1v1 tackles in space and all over the field and is a beast of a tackler who dominates at the contact point and gain line, especially when he has a full head of steam. Allen flies off the ball at the snap and is strong through contact and can make 1v1 tackles with OL draped all over him, and I'm impressed by his lateral agility and quickness when reading and tracking ball carriers at the LOS and gap-to-gap. At a verified 6'3, 215+, Allen owns sideline-to-sideline range and explosive closing speed, with particularly impressive acceleration for his size once he sticks his cleat in the turf and fires out towards the ball carrier. So much obvious juice coming out of one of Minnesota's most legendary programs, and with a wrestling background to boot? Future is bright for this sophomore Warrior.

No one embodies the toughness and multi-sport spirit of this feature like the Minneota Vikings. The four-straight Class A state champions have been one of the most underrated talent factories the past few cycles, with some more serious muscle, multi-sport athleticism, and talent coming up in 2027 and beyond as well. For this special multi-sport feature, junior OC/LS Cael Fier takes the spotlight, as his multi-sport resume is one of the best in the small school ranks. The standout OL for the Vikings is also currently ranked 4th in Class A's 215 lb. rankings, and he recently earned his 100th career victory on the mat, building some serious steam going into sections and the state tourney. Sadly, Fier doesn't have any football tape available, but the Minneota program and legacy has enough weight for college football and wrestling programs to put Fier on their Big Board's off rip.
Representing the always-competitive NRHEG wrestling program, stud 2027 multi-sporter [player_tooltip player_id='1288350' first='Ryan' last='Schlaak'] has played himself off the watchlist in our upcoming 2027 Official Ranking's Update coming in a week and change thanks to a more than stellar 2025 campaign as a LB and RB. Not only has the junior been balling out on the gridiron, Schlaak is dominating the 2025-26 wrestling season and is currently ranked 2nd at 189 pounds in Class A, but the kid is versatile, and recently placed 2nd at 215 lbs. at the Takedown on 22 individual tournament host by Maple River/USC in Mapleton.

In Schlaak's 2025 game film, the junior proved himself to be a hard-charging RB with a dynamic skillset makes him a weapon out of the backfield as a pass catche. Plus, he's more than tough enough to handle pass-pro responsibilities in the backfield, and displayed a mean stiff-arm that sent some defenders parallel to the grass after a poor tackle attempt on the junior. Additionally, Schlaak demonstrates speed and vision that allows him to eat up big chunks of yardage once he gets his hands on the rock in space, as well as some light feet and quick cuts in the open field as a ball carrier.

Redwood Valley's football program always seems to be stuffed with sleepers, but boy oh boy do the Cardinals have a STUD of a 2027 athlete in Lucas Fuhr.
Fuhr is a BALLER of a RB/SS who is a natural football player in every sense of the word. A three-phase contributor and starter, Fuhr is quite the explosive offensive weapon, with big-play ability as an offensive option, with great hands and route-running ability, as well as juice after the catch, as a wideout. As a RB, he's very elusive in space who can break tackles with either power or speed, and you have to love what he's bringing to the table defensively as well. Fuhr displays superb closing speed and instincts that help him remain a steady presence in opponent's backfields and eat up more than his fair share of TFLs throughout the season. He's also sticky in coverage and naturally and smoothly works to undercut WRs and make plays on the football, whether be INTs or PBUs who doubles as a physical tackler who can win and even dominate at the contact point. Additionally, he's a 2x state qualifier on the wrestling mat who is currently ranked 5th at 172A and is set to win his section tournament for the second-straight time in a few weeks while on the quest for a third-straight state tournament qualification and hopefully a place on the podium for the first time. Last but far from least, Fuhr's track times are eye-catching, to say the least, as he's PRed with a 11.00 100M, 22,7 200M, and 15'11" long jump, exciting data points to add to his recruiting resume. Get this kid some recruiting attention ASAP!

More Staples-Motley multi-sport prospects, please! The Cardinals are currently in a premium position as talent manufacturers on both the gridiron and wrestling mat as of late, led by the do-it-all super [player_tooltip player_id='1552404' first='Colbe' last='Tappe'], who will be heading to St. Cloud State to play baseball at the next level. In his wake, a boatload of young Cards are ready to step up to the plate, including 5'10, 170 lber. Beau Carlson. Currently ranked 5th at 152A on the wrestling mat for Staples-Motley's intimidating 2025-26 wrestling program, Carlson is fresh off a strong sophomore season on the gridiron in which he showed off a skillset that impacted all three phases of the game for the Cards.

Carlson flashes some very impressive reps as a WR, including toughness, the ability to reel in and finish receptions through contact and a willingness to go over the middle, ball skills, and the quickness to separate at the top of the route. As a RB, he displays impressive vision as a ball carrier and explosive acceleration, and I like his game as a defensive back as well. Carlson demonstrates great pace out of his breaks, is sticky in coverage out on the perimeter as a CB, and has a great rep against Holdingford that saw him chase down a loose [player_tooltip player_id='1255135' first='Masyn' last='Patrick'] to save a TD in very impressive fashion. Gotta get this kid on the 2028 Ranking's Big Board ASAP!
