We're in the middle of our January Rankings content for the class of 2027, and we're going position by position to analyze the players who tell the story of this update. I've hit a couple of big-picture items so far, namely three things to know about the class and my traditional behind-the-scenes piece. Now, I'm breaking down the tight end position.

Since we don't have an overly large number of tight ends, we're doing things a bit differently at the position. I wrote scouting reports for the top tight ends in the state a couple of weeks ago, so I won't rehash that. Instead, I'll break down the class as a whole while focusing on the sleepers in the class.

I'm intrigued by some of the names toward the bottom of the above list.

Jack Britt's [player_tooltip player_id='1718784' first='Phoenix' last='Barnes'] only caught eight passes this season, but he took three of them for touchdowns, averaging over 20 yards per catch. He has freakish athleticism, as he's every bit of 6'5" with speed in the 4.6-4.7 range. He's a traits-over-production guy right now, but he's a willing blocker, and the traits are tantalizing. He's on my shortlist of players to see this offseason.

[player_tooltip player_id='1607846' first='Noah' last='Congleton'] is an excellent basketball player, and he's learning to use that profile on the football field. He has great size and the ability to go up and get the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='1665263' first='Braeden' last='Vetter'] has an intriguing athletic profile and took a step forward as a receiver this season after five catches as a sophomore. This year, he caught 19 passes for five touchdowns. He can operate in-line, in the slot, or in the backfield as an H-Back. All three of those guys have serious upside, and as they continue to fine-tune their skill sets, could have significant upward movement.

The top three to five are in the elite category. [player_tooltip player_id='1607779' first='Jaxon' last='Dollar'] is our top overall prospect in the class, while [player_tooltip player_id='1607877' first='Vermont' last='Carmack'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1607810' first='Qualteau' last='Hawkins'] are both in the top 25 in the class.

There are likely to be some new additions over the next few months, not only as more players pop up on the radar, but inevitably as some edge rushers and linebackers choose to focus on the tight end position.
