Indiana Stock Up Showcase: Defensive Back Evaluations

It was a versatile and talented group of defenders. In Indy's they worked on positioning and technique. In 1v1's they did a good job winning their fair share of the reps. He has also listed himself as a linebacker. With his size and ability to move in space I could see him as a hybrid linebacker at the college level. For his size and weight Smith moves really well. He has hips on a swivel and is fluid in his turn to run. He's good in press coverage where he has heavy hands and is able to slow receivers in their release. He's sound in his technique and has good footwork. He's patient in working as receivers stem into their routes. He mirrors well. He's just a natural fluid athlete. He's a really smooth runner who has little wasted energy. This easily translates to his ability to mirror receivers. When they get into their routes, he's so in their pocket they have a hard time creating separation. Gus had a strong day. He's comfortable in press coverage. He's a fluid athlete who is good with his hands at the line of scrimmage. He has a smooth back pedal and is able to run with receivers. He has the bend to drop his hips get in and out of breaks with receivers in their routes. He's got the burst needed to mirror. I think his size he profiles more to the safety position. He moves well for a bigger back.
