As we head into the month of December, we have entered the next round of ranking updates in the state of Kentucky. The first class to be updated in this round is the class of 2028. With that being said, I will be taking the next week or so to break down these rankings by positions. After already covering the quarterbacks and running backs, here are our top wide receivers and tight ends in the class of 2028 in the state of Kentucky.

[player_tooltip player_id='871291' first='Avery' last='Thompson'] continued to show that he is one of the top players in the state in his class this season. In 13 games, Thompson led his team in receiving with 66 catches for 1,002 yards and 10 touchdowns. Thompson is a very skilled route runner, using quick breaks in his routes to create separation with ease. He is also dangerous in the deep passing game, using his speed to blow by opposing defensive backs with ease. Avery currently holds multiple Power 4 offers and I expect more to come his way as he is a high-caliber wide receiver prospect.

[player_tooltip player_id='871288' first='Kingston' last='Dillard'] has been high on our radar since his freshman year and has continued to impress this season. He has led his team in receiving this season, catching 51 passes for 1,232 yards and 18 touchdowns in 14 games. Dillard has explosive speed which he uses to run by opposing defensive backs with ease in the deep passing game. He is also very reliable in contested/jump ball situations, using his athleticism to attack passes at their highest point along with his strong hands to bring in catches through contact. Dillard currently holds an offer from Kentucky Wesleyan and I wouldn't be surprised to see more come his way soon.

[player_tooltip player_id='1907206' first='Jakari' last='Matchem'] jumped onto our radar with a very impressive sophomore season. He finished the year as his team's leading receiver, hauling in 80 passes for 1,239 yards and 21 touchdowns in 12 games. Matchem is a very reliable deep threat, using his speed to create separation and then showing the ability to look in passes to make catches without breaking stride. He is also dangerous after the catch, showing the speed and elusiveness in the open field to turn short passes/screens into big gains. Matchem also made an impact on defense this season, recording 24 tackles and three interceptions (tied for team lead). Jakari doesn't currently hold any offers but he is a player who college coaches should definitely have on their radar moving forward.

[player_tooltip player_id='1240849' first='Jude' last='Lanier'] is another McCracken County receiver who stood out this season. In 12 games, Lanier caught 55 passes for 816 yards and six touchdowns. Lanier is a very impressive athlete, showing the ability to out jump opposing defensive backs to bring in contested passes. He has also shown the speed to create separation with ease in the deep passing game. Lanier also returned a kickoff for a touchdown this season and made an impact on defense, coming away with one interception. Jude currently holds an offer from Nicholls State and I expect more to come his way over the next two seasons.

To wrap up our top five receivers in the class of 2028 in the state of Kentucky, I have [player_tooltip player_id='1743736' first='Chi' last='Poynter']. Poynter had an outstanding sophomore year, finishing with a team-high 55 receptions for 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns in 12 game. Chi is very impressive in the open field after the catch, using his speed and elusiveness to turn short passes/screens into big gains at any given moment. He has also proven to be a reliable red zone target, using his athleticism to go up and catch jump balls at their highest point with ease. Poynter also scored two rushing touchdowns this season. Chi doesn't currently hold any offers but he should be a player to keep a close eye on heading into his junior year.

[player_tooltip player_id='952775' first='Jayvion' last='Fullwood'] continued to separate himself as the top tight end in the state in his class this season. He played a key role in the Hazard passing attack, catching 40 passes for 529 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games. Fullwood has the speed to pose as a vertical threat down the field and also has the strong hands to bring in catches through contact with ease. He is also a dominant run blocker, showing the ability to pick up blocks in the open field and drive his man out of the picture. Fullwood also scored two rushing touchdowns this season. Jayvion should be a player to keep an eye on as he continues to develop over the next couple years.

Our second and final tight end in our Top 100 in the class of 2028 in the state of Kentucky is [player_tooltip player_id='871292' first='Lukas' last='Olmstead']. Olmstead played a key role in the Knox Central passing game this season. He showed impressive route running ability, showing the ability to find openings in zone coverage to pose as an open target. Olmstead is also impressive after the catch, showing the ability to get up the field quickly and use his speed to pick up extra yards. He finished his sophomore year with 33 receptions for 470 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games. Lukas will definitely be a player worth keeping an eye on moving forward.
