Gretna East's [player_tooltip player_id='1075673' first='Chase' last='Grow'] battled through some injuries this season but still managed to continue flashing the upside he's shown since his freshman campaign. Playing in 9 games, Chase completed 56% of his passes for 1,019 yards and 10 touchdowns and made a massive jump in the run game with 61 carries for 562 yards and 10 rushing touchdowns, averaging 9.2 yards per carry. Watching Chase's tape, I am very impressed with his composure and willingness to hang in the pocket as he works through his progressions while also displaying the ability to evade pressure from defenders. He has the arm strength to rifle throws into tight windows and can throw with touch when sending up a bomb to one of his deep threat receivers. Grow also caught my eye with his athleticism as a runner, as he looked more like a running back when he would decide to pull the ball and take off. He will catch you off guard with his elusive twitch and strong base that make him hard to bring down on first contact. Grow is going to have to use both his arm and legs to move the ball against a versatile and athletic Gretna defense.

It's hard to believe that a back-to-back 1,000+ yard rusher is still "under the radar" at the moment, but I think he is deserving of more looks on the recruiting trail. Waverly's star RB [player_tooltip player_id='488222' first='Nathan' last='Axmann'] has saved his best performance for last as he has been playing at an elite level during his senior season, with 1,524 rushing yards, 265 receiving yards, 23 rushing touchdowns, and two receiving touchdowns. So far this season, Nathan has been much improved, looking stronger, faster, and more explosive than in previous seasons, and he has really helped elevate the offense. Nathan's physical, gritty running style and strong 6'0", 190-pound frame make him such a feared runner, as by the fourth quarter, trying to tackle him seems almost impossible. Axmann has a powerful base that keeps him trucking through tackles, and even when he does get stopped, he does a good job finishing the run by following forward to get extra yardage. His vision allows him to find creases opening up before exploding through the gaps with great burst and speed to breakaway for the homerun. Great receiving back out of the backfield— can cause damage if you let him get the ball in space. The Badgers had a tough time containing Axmann during their first meeting in Week 1 as he rushed for 258 yards and two touchdowns. Could we see a repeat performance to send the Vikes to state?

The high-flying Gretna Dragons offense features one of the top receiving duos in the state in seniors [player_tooltip player_id='1429588' first='Bryce' last='Lakers'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1573606' first='Drew' last='Boltz']. Bryce has already committed to the Lopers, but Boltz remains one of the top uncommitted prospects on the '26 board. Boltz has hauled in 30 catches for 446 yards and seven touchdowns while only appearing in nine games. One of Drew's biggest assets is his versatility as a route runner, showing that he can work all levels of the field and can create separation from defenders at the top of his route. He gets clean releases coming off the ball, understands how to attack leverage, and is effective when forced to improvise for his QB. Expect Boltz to be looked at as a reliable chain-mover as the Dragons chip away at a stingy Gretna East defense.

I contemplated putting Waverly's [player_tooltip player_id='488221' first='Brady' last='Schieffer'] under LB for this feature, but decided to highlight his receiving abilities. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='488221' first='Brady' last='Schieffer'] is an interesting prospect with legit upside at tight end or outside linebacker/EDGE. Schieffer currently sits as the Vikings' second leading receiver with 15 catches for 332 yards and six receiving touchdowns. He has a taller, lengthier frame at 6'4" and 215 pounds with room to continue adding mass at the next level. His combination of size and athleticism makes him a great weapon at tight end, where he displays the physicality to be an asset as a run-blocker while also being a vertical threat in the passing game. Brady is a tough receiver who is willing to cross over the middle of the field and has the wheels to take a short pass for a big gain. He plays the ball very well by elevating to snag the pass at the high point and being aggressive at the catch point. Defensively, Schieffer flashes the ability to fire off the edge and get to the QB quickly. He also showed he can more than hold his own when asked to drop back into coverage, ending the year with two interceptions. Schieffer's ability to open up the middle of the field could be huge if the Badgers decide to stack the box against the run.

The Badgers' offense has been rolling in recent weeks with senior [player_tooltip player_id='1114445' first='Charlie' last='Swoboda'] and Co. leading the charge on the offensive line. Charlie is what I call a "lunchpail" lineman: someone who is willing to show up on any given gameday and play left tackle, right tackle, left guard, right guard, and probably even center. Although he might be considered "undersized" by some college metrics, his technique and proven track record are hard to ignore. Right from the jump, he plays with an aggressive mindset, looking to take the fight to his opponent with a powerful jab and a motor that keeps him running from snap to whistle. Swoboda uses his hands very well both when handfighting with his opponent and when trying to work them inside to gain leverage. Once he's locked in, Charlie has the power and explosiveness to upend his opponent to finish the play with a pancake block. Good instincts and mobility in pass protection. Will Charlie and the OL help punch the Badgers' ticket to Memorial Stadium?

Here's one of the bigger sleepers in this '26 cycle. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1217777' first='Liam' last='Norton'] has been a dominant force in the trenches for Gretna East with tons of varsity experience on both the offensive and defensive side. Norton has the upside to play on either side of the ball at the next level, but you have to love the motor and tenacity he displays on the defensive line. So far, Liam has racked up 50 tackles, 11 TFLs, five sacks, and a forced fumble while playing from multiple spots on the DL. What helps Liam stand out is his brute strength, which allows him to overwhelm opponents at the point of attack and even blow up double-teams. He has also underrated his lateral quickness, which helps him track down RBs and scrambling QBs, often resulting in stops at/behind the line of scrimmage. He can consistently win the leverage battle, and he uses his hands well to disengage from blockers. The Griffins are going to need Liam to provide pressure up front to disrupt a Dragon's passing game that can attack from all angles.

Senior linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1270806' first='Cole' last='Miller'] is a name to watch this Friday as he will be a pivotal player in helping Bennington reach their fifth consecutive Class B championship. Miller has had another stellar season for the Badgers' defense, recording 86 tackles, 10 TFLs, 3.5 sacks, an interception, and a fumble recovery. Watching Cole last week, he stood out right away with next-level size at 6'2" and 210 pounds and throwback physicality. He is a well-rounded LB who can drive downhill against the run, flip his hips to get back into his coverage assignment, and is effective when sent on blitzes. Once he gets to the ball carrier, Miller can really deliver some powerful hits while still maintaining good technique to ensure the stop. Great gap integrity and ability to hold the edge to shut down run schemes. Good closing speed and smart tackling angles get him to the ball in a flash. Cole and the Badgers' defense have been playing better week in and week out and will need their best game yet as they look to avenge their Week 1 loss.

I've had the chance to watch the Gretna Dragons twice this season, and both times I was very impressed by the secondary's play, including junior safety [player_tooltip player_id='1818746' first='Talon' last='Daharsh']. Talon is a lengthy, athletic safety with the range to cover large chunks of the field, resulting in 50 tackles, 2.5 TFLs, four interceptions, and a forced fumble. Talon really stands out in coverage, where he is a versatile asset who can line up at safety, move down to cover slot receivers, and isn't afraid to get physical against the run. He plays with fluid hips and quick feet, which allow him to change direction on a drop and stay with receivers throughout their routes. Standing at 6'1" and 180 pounds, Daharsh has the size and length to match up well against receivers and be physical at the point of contact. Good hands and ball skills result in turnovers and pass deflections. Talon also currently sits third on the team in receiving yards with 30 catches for 395 yards and two touchdowns. Having a safety like Daharsh, who is willing to help load the box, will be huge in slowing down the Griffins' rushing attack that is averaging 8.2 ypc.

To say the "Gretna Bowl" will be a star-studded affair is an understatement, considering even the special teams will feature two of the top kickers in the state. On the Griffins' side is third-year kicker [player_tooltip player_id='1075676' first='Kamden' last='Korth'], who is ranked as the #40 kicker in the country and has earned a 4.5-star rating. Kamden has converted 54 of his 55 PATs and went four for eight on his field goal attempts for 66 total points. At 6'4", 195 pounds, Korth has a big, strong leg that showed with a season FG long of 43 yards (47-yard career long) and will likely push his range with another offseason to keep improving.
