Six Standouts from the Iowa 1A State Championship Game

A big, thick body that plays with heavy hands and violence, Meyer looked like a blood-thirsty predator going after Regina quarterback, [player_tooltip player_id='1657101' first='Kyle' last='Tracy']. A Sioux Falls pledge, Meyer will join a program that covets Iowa recruits and develops them into top-tier Division II talent.   Meyer, who Regina opted to run away from as the game progressed, finished with eight tackles, a tackle-for-loss (TFL), a sack and a pass-breakup.     As mentioned regarding Meyer, [player_tooltip player_id='1657101' first='Kyle' last='Tracy'] was under pressure from start to finish in the state championship game, as the West Lyon defense was focused on making him uncomfortable. On the first few drives, it worked. Then Tracy settled in.   In the first half, Tracy stood tall in the pocket, fired down field to an open [player_tooltip player_id='1871931' first='Carter' last='Slager'] for a 58-yard touchdown pass up the seam, following it up with a swing pass to [player_tooltip player_id='1197445' first='Savion' last='Miller'], who scored from 21 yards out.   In the second half, he found [player_tooltip player_id='466364' first='Tate' last='Wallace'] on a crosser, allowing Wallace to find his way into the endzone. A runner, too, Tracy took 18 carries for 59 yards.     Known for his size and quickness, [player_tooltip player_id='1605331' first='Gabriel' last='Hegelheimer'] undoubtedly has a future in college football, whether it's at running back or somewhere on defense.   On Thursday, his kicking abilities are what helped the Regals the most. Perfect on PATs throughout the season, Hegelheimer stayed true on extra points, but where he came up the most clutch for Regina was on field goals of 29 and 38 yards. The latter being a career long.     A versatile playmaker on both sides of the ball for Regina, [player_tooltip player_id='1370666' first='Aaron' last='Honore'] may have had the best defensive performance of his career in Cedar Falls.   A rangy defensive back that can help on the backend from sideline-to-sideline, Honore was a name that was constantly mentioned by the announcers for being involved in pass coverage. Surprisingly finishing with just one pass-breakup, Honore used his length and quickness to stymie the Wildcat passing attack.   He finished the evening with a co-team lead in tackles (11) and he was in on the field goal block that forced overtime.     Described as a "stick of dynamite" by West Lyon Head Coach Jay Rozeboom, [player_tooltip player_id='1925478' first='River' last='Kramer'] lived up to that nickname in the second half for the Wildcats.   Down 27-13 in the first minute of the fourth quarter following Wallace's touchdown catch and run, WL needed a big play in the worst way. Enter Kramer. Kicking the all to [player_tooltip player_id='2050045' first='Jaxton' last='DeJong'], the sophomore tossed it to the opposite side of the field into the hands of his classmate, who took off up the sideline for a 97-yard score, making the game 27-20.   On what looked to be a methodical drive that would take a chunk of time off the clock by Regina, Kramer recovered a a fumble three minutes later on the WL 25-yard line.   Need another big play? Kramer caught a backwards pass to the flat, reversed field and gained 19 yards on the ensuing play. Later in the drive he completed a 33-yard pass to [player_tooltip player_id='2058916' first='Jared' last='Ciesielski'], putting the West Lyon offense on the one-yard line, scoring just one play later, tying it up at 27 to go into over time.   Oh, and he led the Wildcats in tackles with ten, adding a TFL and a forced fumble.     A star all season long for the Wildcats, [player_tooltip player_id='1221929' first='Evan' last='Hildring'] had the first and last word on Thursday night in Cedar Falls.   On the first drive of the evening, Hildring took carries of ten and 24 yards to help the Wildcat offense down to the two-yard line before punching it in to take a 7-0 lead.   On the first play of overtime, Hildring took a carry up the middle and wouldn't be denied, scoring from ten yards out to give WL the 34-27 advantage.   After Tracy took it down to the one-yard line on Regina's first offensive play of overtime, Hildring was a key cog in the Wildcat defensive machine, stuffing the Regals at the line on 2nd and 3rd down, before a botched snap on the final play secured the victory for West Lyon.
