As we approach the last couple weeks of November, the 2025 high school football regular season is behind us in the state of Kentucky and postseason action is in full swing. With that being said, I wanted to take a look back at the season and highlight some freshmen at each position who have made/are continuing to make an impact in their first season of high school football. After already covering the quarterbacks, here are some 2029 running backs in the state of Kentucky who have made an impact this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1311186' first='Jayvian' last='Meaux'] has been one of the most productive players in the state this season, regardless of class. He is Danville's leading rusher, carrying the ball 214 times for 1,825 yards and 30 touchdowns in 11 games. Meaux explodes out of his stance and uses his burst of speed to run away from the defense on long runs. He has also shown the elusiveness to make defenders miss in the open field. Jayvian has also caught three passes for 34 yards and a touchdown this season. Meaux and the Admirals will look to continue their impressive season in a second round playoff matchup against Somerset this week.

[player_tooltip player_id='868210' first='Caden' last='Lawson'] is another running back who has led his team in rushing as a freshman, carrying the ball 60 times for 728 yards and eight touchdowns in 10 games. Lawson is a very shifty ball carrier, showing the ability to make quick cuts in the open field and change direction smoothly to make defenders miss with ease. He has also shown the speed to run away from the defense on long runs. Lawson has also caught eight passes for 117 yards and a touchdown, and recorded 26 tackles this season. Caden and the Yellowjackets will be looking to continue their undefeated season against Hazard this week.

[player_tooltip player_id='1632127' first='Peyton' last='James'] showed a lot of promise in his first season at Green County. In 11 games, James carried the ball 108 times for 686 yards and eight touchdowns. Peyton proved to be a very strong runner, showing the ability to lower his shoulder and keep his legs churning through contact to break tackles with ease. He has also shown the elusiveness to make defenders miss in the open field. James also caught eight passes for 87 yards and a touchdown, threw one touchdown pass, and recorded five tackles and two tackles for loss this season. Green County unfortunately saw their season come to an end in a first round playoff loss last week but James will be a player to continue to watch over the next few seasons.

My final 2029 running back who stood out to me this season is [player_tooltip player_id='1884266' first='Grayson' last='Hall']. Hall led Betsy Layne in rushing, carrying the ball 154 times for 790 yards and nine touchdowns. He has shown the ability to use his speed to hit the running lane with a sense of urgency and run away from the defense once he hits the open field. Grayson has also shown the elusiveness and contact balance to break tackles with ease without losing stride. He also returned one kickoff for a touchdown and made an impact on defense this season, finishing the year with 49 tackles and two tackles for loss. Hall and the Bobcats had their season ended in an opening round playoff loss last week but he will definitely be a player to keep a close eye on over the next few years.
