10/18: Hilton and Victor Have a Shootout!, 34-32

Possibly the game of the year, as a shootout was on foot in this matchup between the Hilton Cadets and the Victor Blue Devils. It came down to a last-minute drive by Victor, where they were able to get into field goal range but fell short to Hilton in a 34-32 score.

For Hilton, their offense battled throughout, both on the ground and through the air. Hence, players near the goal line punched in early scores. One of those players was RB Tyler Reger, with 3-yard and 5-yard rushing touchdowns, and FB Calvin Starwald with a punishing 2-yard score. Special teams was also a major factor as Jared Wade returned an electrifying 86-yard kickoff. By and large, Wade was a key factor, making critical catches throughout the night, including a 2-point conversion. Conversely, QB/S Matthew Kosiorek was humming on offense, making critical throws when his number was called. The biggest throw was a 10-yard touchdown pass with 3:20 left to take the lead. On defense, the top highlight was the forced fumble for Starwald and Gianluca Auriuso, from which Kosiorek recovered.

No doubt, Victor answered everything that Hilton threw. At length, Victor mixed in a lot of run and pass plays that picked up huge gains. The first three scores were by Matthew Lagan out of the Wildcat formation. Victor deployed the Wildcat when they needed yardage or a play. Hence, RB Nathan Harris helped out the backfield and passing game with a few highlights swinging out of the backfield. Turning a few plays into game-changing first downs showed the elusiveness of Harris. Victor also capitalized on a 2nd-half fumble on the kickoff, in which QB [player_tooltip player_id='1742344' first='Gus' last='Pappajohn'] hit WR Kevin Booth in a contested tight window throw for six. No doubt, Pappajohn's best throw was on a 3rd & 6 where he hit Booth again. Booth made an incredible toe-tapping catch in the corner end zone. Other key contributors were up front, creating precise lanes with Mason Napple, [player_tooltip player_id='1685742' first='Gage' last='Ramos'], and Kevin Madison.

10/18: Irondequoit Tops Churchville-Chili

The other game that grabbed my attention was how Irondequoit defeated Churchville-Chili 23-7 to keep their undefeated record alive. Equally important, Churchville-Chili has been hot, winning five straight games. Henceforth, Irondequoit was going to be tasked with the challenge of slowing down the Churchville-Chili offense. No doubt the Irondequoit defense came to play, in which Sam Thore had 11 tackles and [player_tooltip player_id='1675485' first='Myles' last='Kedley'] ended with 9. Even more, QB [player_tooltip player_id='1328878' first='Eric' last='Torres'] also came to play, as he delivered a strong performance, making several critical throws on rollouts. A 13-yard pass to Cooper Moore flashed while also keeping the play alive to avoid rushers in the backfield, which was impressive to see by Torres. Moore had a huge 22-yard gain in the 3rd quarter that was on a critical 3rd & 1 to help ice the game away. Given that, it was an impactful game for Moore, who rushed for 138 yards.
