Section One Football covers schools in Dutchess, Putnam, Rockland, and Westchester Counties. It is the first of 11 Sections created by NYSPHSAA to divide sports into regions outside of New York City.

For Football, Section One is often forgotten, with few big time recruits or prospects receiving recognition for their athletic skills. In this Section, it is common to see Option, RPO, and Modern Day Wing Tee like offenses.

Teams like Rye, Somers, North Rockland, and Yorktown, are found in Section One, with Somers winning the State Championship each of the past two seasons.

Eye Catchers, Are Athletes who have gained interest from myself, or college programs across the country. We will look at a few Eye Catchers turning heads across Section One in the 2026 Class.

QB's

[player_tooltip player_id='1624554' first='Logan' last='Lawrence']-John Jay

[player_tooltip player_id='1624554' first='Logan' last='Lawrence'] and the Patriots sit at 5-0 on the year, and have put up 21 points in each game this season. They have a big matchup against North Rockland coming up in what will be a huge test for this offense. Lawrence has 13 touchdowns and four interceptions, and a 69% Comp Percentage. I like his numbers, and while he is ranked, his tape and stats can move him up the boards.

[player_tooltip player_id='1742325' first='Connor' last='Brice']-Tuckahoe

We saw Brice last week against Dobbs Ferry. Brice is an Option/RPO QB who has good arm talent. He is a quick athlete, who is lengthy and strong as a ball carrier. Brice is my current top QB in Section One, and improving his arm strength and talent can land him on college boards.

RB's

Chase Prohaszka-Brewster

Prohaszka is second in Section One in the Yards Category. The Brewster RB, has doubled his 2024 yards total and tripled his touchdown total in four less games. Prohaszka is the QB as well, and runs an Option/RPO offense for a 4-1 Brewster team. He is the main reason Brewster has succeeded this reason, and his skills and stats are catching my eye.

Brian Formato-Bronxville

Brian Formato is my favorite unranked RB in Section One. We saw him and Bronxville take down Sleepy Hollow earlier this season. Formato is the leader for this Broncos squad, and is a tough physical runner. In a mainly rushing offense. Having a good RB is needed, and Formato fills that role.

Charlie Garnett-Rye

Garnett is a new name I've heard around Section One this season. With Caron Miller and [player_tooltip player_id='1529592' first='Henry' last='Shoemaker'], running the back comes second in Rye's offense. He has elite 4.4 speed, and is an elusive threat. I like his frame, and speed a lot, and won't be shocked when he takes over for Rye shortly.

[player_tooltip player_id='1529592' first='Henry' last='Shoemaker']-Rye

Shoemaker should be removed from this list due to the fact he is a top ranked recruit and committed to Harvard. Despite this, I keep him on the list because he can seriously play. Standing at 6'5, he towers over opponents and makes catches look easy. His stats this season are solid, and he is one of the top recruits out of Section One in recent memory.

Nate Johnson-John Jay

Someone has to catch [player_tooltip player_id='1624554' first='Logan' last='Lawrence']'s throws. That someone is Nate Johnson. Johnson averages half of Lawrences passing yards per game, and leads the team in receptions, touchdowns, and yards. Having a good QB is one thing, but having an outstanding WR to catch for that QB, helps a team drastically.

Dwyane Campbell-Yonkers Force

Yonkers Force combines multiple schools in the Yonkers Area. The passing attack led by Brian Mulvihill has scored five touchdowns this season, with Campbell having 0. Despite this he leads the team in yards, receptions, and touchdowns. Yonkers Force sits at 4-1, and the Mulvihill-Campbell connection is a huge reason why.

[player_tooltip player_id='1294922' first='Lawrence' last='Iyalekhue']-Yonkers Force

Iyalekhue is one of the top prospects in the State. He catches my eye due to the run game Yonkers Force has pushed this season. His success upfront, has allowed his team to run the ball, and moved them to 4-1 on the season with 14 total rushing touchdowns in five games.

[player_tooltip player_id='1624524' first='Randolph' last='Peterson']-Somers

[player_tooltip player_id='1624524' first='Randolph' last='Peterson'], has helped rebuild this Somers team. Most the players on the roster, had not lost a game entering this season. Somers started 0-2. Peterson's consistency on the line, allowed the Tuskers to find their identity, where they have won three straight games.

[player_tooltip player_id='1743061' first='Matthew' last='Bentivenga']-Mahopac

Mahopac is one of the top teams in Section One, sitting at 3-2. Bentivenga's size is underrated, yet he holds his own against some of the top teams. Mahopac has ran the ball consistently this season, with the line being a huge reason.

[player_tooltip player_id='1344725' first='Abelardo' last='Hernandez']-Mamaroneck

Hernandez, and Mamaroneck sit undefeated through 2025. The Tigers have ran the ball successfully, with a big emphasis on their O-Line. Hernandez as a Senior, is a huge leader for this squad, and has helped Mamaroneck stay undefeated.
