Happy Friday, and welcome back to one of my favorite weekly series. Every Friday, we take a look at some of the youngest players in the state. Freshmen are making an impact this season all across the state, and we want to highlight them. We've already highlighted 25 freshmen this season; here's our sixth episode of Freshman Friday. Enjoy!

It's not often we see freshmen starting at the center position, but Hicks has done that this season for a young Christ School team. He's getting better every week, even as he's faced some talented older interior defenders. The biggest thing that stands out on film is his initial anchor. He fires off the ball quickly, but gets immediately to a balanced base, allowing him to drive block in the running game, or hold up in the passing game. He's technically sound, and a guy we have squarely on our radar.

Johnson is getting more run at corner as the season goes on, and he just had his best game of the year against North Moore. He racked up seven tackles and recovered a fumble. He's also getting a few opportunities at running back, a position several in the program think could be his best in the future. We love when young guys get run, and he's not afraid of contact, even at 5'7", 145 pounds.

We haven't seen recent film of Hunt on Hough's undefeated JV team, but we really liked his middle school film. He's putting on some good weight and comes from a football family, giving him a high I.Q. His feet are solid, and we're in no rush to see him at the varsity level. As long as he continues to grow physically and develop technically, he'll be a player to watch.

Woods is making the most of his opportunities, with five touchdown runs on 26 carries this season. He has a 10-yard rush in every game and has shown good speed and burst to get to the edge on outside zone handoffs. Shelby doesn't need him to be a workhorse, but he has 1,000-yard potential in the future and we love the early varsity run he's getting as a change-of-pace back.

Hunt has quietly positioned itself as one of the top 5A teams in the state, and Cooper is a huge reason for that. He's a tackling machine who has flashed as both a pass-rusher and in coverage. He's at his best, however, when he's getting downhill to impact the running game. He's a sure tackler with good size and burst, allowing him to fill holes and make big stops.
