The 2025 High School football season has finally begun and is in the books. This week I was able to make it to two games and I will highlight players that stood out from each contest.

West Seneca East @ Starpoint

On opening night, West Seneca East proved they will be a force this season by running right through Starpoint, 42-14. Many names on the Trojan roster were new to me but they showed there is a plethora of talent as they accumulated for 244 yards on the ground between 5 players; neither of which ran for more than 76 yards.

Player of the Game

After not playing much in his sophomore season, Monterro lead West Seneca East with 76 yards on the ground on just 8 carries and added two scores in their opening game. He displayed a good blend of power and speed and should be one of their leaders moving forward.

X Factor

Sadowski was undoubtedly West Seneca East's main ball carrier with 15 attempts for 69 yards. Not the breakaway runner that his teammates are, Kevin can wear a defense down with solid power.

Breakout Player

In his varsity debut, Johnson showed a lot of explosiveness and is a threat to score every time he touches the ball. Although he only carried it 4 times, Eric turned it into 55 yards and 2 touchdowns. Just a freshman, this should be a player to watch for the next few years.

Player to Watch

In just his 3rd career start, Chase showed good arm strength and the ability to stretch the field. He did have a slow start completing just 3 of his first 12 passes but he would eventually settle his nerves completing his final 3 attempts for 73 yards and a TD in the final drive of the game. This is a Quarterback with a lot of promise in a pass heavy attack.

St. Joe's @ Cardinal Hayes (@ CBA in Albany)

At a neutral site, the St. Joe's Marauders from Kenmore took on Cardinal Hayes, one of the best programs in New York City. A highly contested defensive battle, Cardinal Hayes took a 12-0 halftime lead but a 2nd half kick return for a TD and a huge passing score from [player_tooltip player_id='1811553' first='Brayden' last='Manns'] to Jay Ostrander would keep St. Joe's in the game. But, it was a little too late as Hayes won the game 28-14. The following are the Marauder players that had a huge impact on the game and should be on everybody's watch list.

Player of the Game

Amuka is already slated as a top LB prospect so it was no surprise the impact he had on this game and the Marauders as a team. On top of leading the team in tackles from his ILB spot, David also registered 2.5 sacks.

X Factors

Kicinski played a pivotal role in the St. Joe's offense as their lead back with blazing speed. He also contributed as a Cornerback with several pass breakups to keep St. Joe's in this game.

I have been watching Rozak play since his sophomore season and to see the transformation he has made to be an elite two way player in the Monsignor Martin league is remarkable. Stone made several key tackles at LB as well as some nice catches from his Tight End position.

Breakout Player to Watch

St. Joe's received the ball in the second half and Chinn made some noise by returning the kick 70 yards for a TD. It got the Marauders rolling but Cam also had an impact as the team's starting Cornerback with several pass breakups.

The 2025 High School football season has finally begun and is in the books. This week I was able to make it to two games and I will highlight players that stood out from each contest.
