Lots of talent on the field as Oscar Smith beat Indian River 33-20 on Saturday. [player_tooltip player_id='402779' first='Travis' last='Johnson'] took over the 1st half on three plays, showing great fluidity and competitive speed. Travis may have been the difference in the game. Indian River showed great fight and discipline as they mounted a second half comeback. [player_tooltip player_id='1290145' first='Lord' last='Malik Heru'] was fantastic in the second half, showing college attributes and poise at the position. Both teams are deep programs with players to play at all levels of college football. Both teams will be making noise in the VHSL playoffs.

Travis was absolutely electric vs. Indian River today. He finished the day with 7 receptions/174 yards/3 TDs. He scored on two dump passes to go for 72 and 40 yards. After that, he had a diving catch in the end zone on a fly route. Travis took over the 1st half of the game and was the most dynamic player of the afternoon. He showed his ability to stretch the field, but also be put in motion and score on short routes. His versatility as an ATH and route runner is unique. Travis is long, fluid, and super smooth. He can turn a little into a lot very fast. His transition speed as he gets to the second and third level is difficult to defend. He has more Percy Harvin/Athlete in his toolbox than I gave him credit for. There is an endless stream of plays and routes that he can score on. The long strider is fun to watch and makes the game look easy. Travis looks ready for the Big 10.

Lord played fantastic today in the loss to Oscar Smith. Lord demonstrates the desired attributes to be a successful QB at the FBS level. I am most impressed with his accuracy on the move, it is truly stunning for a Freshman QB. Lord is solidly built at 6'0 195 lbs. He could easily grow 2-3 more inches and has the frame to carry 225 lbs. However, it is his subtle QB traits that separate him. Lord can run out of the pocket, manipulating the defense, and then throw across his body with accuracy. His ability to thrive in chaos is impressive. He goes through his progressions, as he is moving out of the pocket. That is extremely rare for a Freshman, especially when playing against one of the best D-lines in the state. Lord led Indian River on a comeback in the second half, after the team went down 33-7. Lord is a dual threat, with good burst to scramble for first downs, and more. He has strong powerful legs, and can out run defenders to keep the chains moving. He is still evolving as a QB, but the instincts are clearly there. He has a cannon for an arm, throws with good touch, and has deep ball accuracy. His situational awareness is his best attribute IMO. He has the arm and legs to sustain drives and capitalize in the red zone. He is a very good decision maker within 10-20 yards, and has a cannon for an arm to take the top off a defense.

One of the best cover corners I have seen in recent years. Jayden batted down multiple passes and had an interception vs Indian River. I like how he stays with WR on deep routes and attacks the ball. His film is super impressive as he shows all of the prototypical attributes you want in an elite cover corner. His twitch, COD, flexibility, trigger, run support, physicality are all there. He is very decisive and instinctive, once he commits he usually makes the highlight play. He is not the tallest player, but a long 5'10 and a competitor. If he was able to have a career as NFL cover corner or nickel corner, it wouldn't surprise me. I would truly love to watch him and [player_tooltip player_id='402779' first='Travis' last='Johnson'] go at it in practice, as they are both superior talents at their positions. Elite CB attributes, dawg mentality, UVA is getting a great prospect. How dynamic he is at the position is truly impressive, great AA.

Horton has evolved into one of the best Offensive Tackle prospects on the east coast IMO. He shows great body control, discipline and fundamentals. He is playing with more aggression than he used to and is playing through the whistle. He has a great football body. He has a great wingspan, nice girth, and is thick and powerful in the lower body. He looks like he will have a high squat and dead lift. He shows twitch and fluidity. He bends well and rolls the hips in run blocking. He shows patience and discipline in pass pro. I always liked him better on defense, but have come around. He can be a left or right tackle on offense. How quick are his feet, and how good is his kick step, could dictate what position he plays in college. I like where he's at developmentally, he's made great strides. He has become a long 300 lb Tackle prospect. Some of Coach Carr's finest work.
