Listed as a wide receiver, [player_tooltip player_id='1619990' first='Matthew' last='Danninger'], like the rest of the Wolves offense, didn't get many opportunities in the passing game on Friday night, but he did make his impact on the defensive side of the ball.

The team's leader in pass-breakups and interceptions so far in 2025, Danninger was effective in stalling the Pella offense through the air, keeping the Dutch from getting going early. Though Michael Manning threw up some passes for his receivers to go get, Danninger was there in coverage to keep the success through the air to a minimum for Marion.

One of the few bright spots on the evening for Marion and the first of two sophomore tailbacks we'll discuss on this list, [player_tooltip player_id='1895691' first='Logan' last='Hendricks'] runs the ball hard. On a night where the Wolves struggled to move the ball, Hendricks provided some relief for the offense, and ran the ball decisively. He may not have broken one for a big gain or a touchdown, but Hendricks is a powerful runner of the football, and he's got a bright future ahead as a tailback and as a linebacker for Marion. Projecting to the next level, he'll best fit as a linebacker.

One of the stand outs for Marion during warmups, [player_tooltip player_id='1620121' first='Gideon' last='Hansen'] is built like a college defensive end or edge. Standing at 6-foot-3 and a 195 pounds with a long frame, Hansen looks chiseled and built to rush the passer.

Though he didn't produce a ton of numbers against Pella's elite offense, Hansen looks the part, and should greatly benefit from his testing numbers and in the weight room when college coaches stop by Marion to get a look at the talent on the football team. If anything, he'll earn a spot on a roster at the next level thanks to his potential, and the frame he can continue to fill out.

One of the better athletes for Marion, Lucas Stearns' frame immediately stood out at warmups. A fluid, confident mover at 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds, Stearns has a similar physical makeup to Hansen, but he moves more like a quarterback and a defensive back.

While he holds down the quarterback position as one of the better athletes on the field for the Wolves, his future is at DB at the next level. Often in one-high looks as a safety, Stearns was the last line of defense for Marion, ensuring that Pella didn't put up any gargantuan gains or big plays for touchdowns.

Almost a carbon-copy of Hendricks, Colton Taylor was another small positive that Marion can lean on going forward this season. Taylor, who is more of a patient runner that looks to let holes develop in the offensive line, isn't quite as hard of a runner as Hendricks, but he's willing to dish out hits to the defense, too.

One play that sticks out -- and appeared to be the longest play of the day for Marion -- was a swing pass to Taylor that got him in the open field. A bit off target from Stearns, Taylor reached out with one hand, snagged the pass and got a first down for the Wolves early on. If the Marion offense can establish the run for Taylor and Hendricks, they should be able to have some success offensively as the season goes along.
