The Collinsville Cardinals improved to 2-0 on the season after a dominant 52-6 win over Edison Thursday night. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1018641' first='Scott' last='Rigby'] set the tone early by taking the opening kickoff back for a score. The Cardinals rolled and had plenty of players shine. The Cardinals were dominant in all three phases of the game. They scored touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams. It was pretty obvious that the Cardinals were going to run away with the win Thursday.

The Cardinals are now 2-0 and have their non-district finale next week at home, against Bartlesville. If Rigby can stay healthy, he can help carry the Cardinals to being a real team to look out for in Class 5A. They are very young in other areas and will need to grow up quickly as they fall in a very tough 5A district. Below, we take a look at five players from Collinsville that stood out in one way or another. We also have a link to the full highlights from our YouTube channel, including postgame comments from Rigby and head coach Kevin Jones.

[player_tooltip player_id='1161901' first='Austin' last='Boren'] - Senior Athlete

Collinsville senior [player_tooltip player_id='1161901' first='Austin' last='Boren'] looks like one of several players on this Collinsville roster that will give the Cardinals a boost in several different areas. Offensively, Boren was a tight end-hybrid player and also took some snaps at quarterback. He caught a touchdown pass in the third quarter as Edison keyed in on the run, only to get burnt on a pass. Boren also read a quick screen perfectly and returned an interception for a touchdown in the second quarter.

[player_tooltip player_id='805100' first='Ben' last='Daniels'] - Senior Wide Receiver/Defensive Back

Senior wide receiver and safety [player_tooltip player_id='805100' first='Ben' last='Daniels'] had a terrific night on both sides of the ball. First off, Daniels has the potential to be the team's leading receiver but the Cardinals were also balanced. Daniels was without a doubt at his best after the catch. He would weave in and out of defenders and was rarely tackled in the open field. He caught a touchdown in the first half and nearly took an interception back for a score but it set up another touchdown.

[player_tooltip player_id='1884281' first='Carter' last='Vaughn'] - Sophomore Quarterback

Out of the five prospects on this breakdown, sophomore quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1884281' first='Carter' last='Vaughn'] was the name we weren't as familiar with coming into the game. Vaughn, taking over as QB1 of the Cardinals, immediately passes the eye test at 6'4. Then we watched him operate this offense and we were very impressed. Vaughn wouldn't lock in on one or two receivers. He spread the ball out to all of his different playmakers. He's a name we're now following in the 2028 class.

[player_tooltip player_id='1177875' first='Max' last='Whitekiller'] - Junior Wide Receiver/Defensive Back

Junior [player_tooltip player_id='1177875' first='Max' last='Whitekiller'] ended up being one of the more productive players on the Collinsville offense. Whitekiller finished the night with two touchdowns on offense. He got behind the Edison defense and was all by himself for a score in the first quarter. He then took a little touch pass around the corner for his second touchdown on the night. Whitekiller's speed was definitely impressive to see. He also made some big plays on defense Thursday.

[player_tooltip player_id='1018641' first='Scott' last='Rigby'] - Senior Running Back

Senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='1018641' first='Scott' last='Rigby'] has picked up right where he left off last season. When he's healthy, he's one of the more dominant running backs in Class 5A. It was clear from the opening play that Rigby could take this game over. He returned the opening kickoff for a score. He also added another touchdown as a runner and was productive in the passing game. What's scary is Thursday was actually a quiet night for Rigby compared to some of his other outputs.
