Breakout Watch: Southeast Michigan

I'm doing my best to keep an eye on everyone included in the rankings, as well as unranked players as they pop up. A number of prospects have taken massive steps forward this season- here's five more players who are on their way to a breakout year.    Griggs is developing into a star at Cass Tech. Little tape from Griggs so far, but I did get a great look at him during Week 1 against Toledo Central Catholic.   He's as competitive as they come. Fits the Cass Tech culture. Athletic and played great coverage all day, especially in the second half. Super focused. Super competitive. Offensively, I'm confident that Griggs will earn more touches as Cass Tech's "easy" part of the schedule is coming up.     Ty has had a good couple of weeks. Last week against Harper Woods, he earned a great interception on an inaccurate pass (near pick-6). Plus, he's showing promising play recognition. His first highlight (below) against Harper Woods shows a phenomenal tackle, largely thanks to the play recognition.   So far, I'm very impressed with Ty's open-field tackling and play recognition. Looking forward to seeing more on defense. I'm also confident that Ty will earn more touches on offense.      A big jump from Gavin so far this season. He looks close to ready for Friday Nights.   Just watch the tape. Gavin went off against Brighton. I'm especially impressed with his improvisation skills. Commonly getting outside the pocket, and able to make plays with his legs and arm. Just watch the play at 0:26- Gavin evades the rush, runs all the way to the sideline, and launches a ball 25 yards downfield while barely staying in-bounds. Gavin seems most comfortable outside of the pocket. I like this style of play for Gavin, and it is one that will translate to Varsity.      I am incredibly excited to get an in-person evaluation. I will be at Duke's game against St. Mary's. Until then, let's take a look at his highlights against Toledo Central Catholic.   The first two highlights are beautiful deep balls. First one, his receiver gets wide-open, and it's a pretty easy throw. His second highlight is even better. His receiver wins his battle, and Duke drops it just past the safety- a place where only his receiver could grab it. Third, another excellent example of ball placement, throwing the post right above the linebackers. Duke is throwing on time and accurately. Can't wait to see Duke compete in-person. He could be on his way toward a rankings boost.      Jabin is another QB that I'll be getting a close look at next week. Super optimistic that Jabin has indeed made that big junior year jump.   So far, he's flashed his dual-threat ability. Below, Jabin's first highlight showcases an accurate 40-yard shot to the endzone. Second, an incredibly explosive run up the middle. Third, another accurate bullet pass to the vertical route. I really, really like what Jabin has shown so far. It looks like he's making that Varsity jump that has been expected. Can't wait to watch Jabin next week!
