Week 1 Recap- Standout Defensive Performances Across the State

What a week!   Today, we're watching some of our Standout Performers on the defensive side of the ball. These prospects dominated last week and have huge seasons ahead of them- we're all going to have to watch out for them moving forward.   With that being said, make sure you watch their film below!    [player_tooltip player_id='401122' first='Kristan' last='Moore'] is a dominant LB out of Selma who caught our attention earlier this year.   "Moore is a dominant pass rusher with an explosive first step, great speed and bend, and violent hands he uses to overwhelm and work around offensive tackles to get to the quarterback. Moore was constantly in the backfield last season. He's a tough guy to block and works with relentless effort to get behind the line and create plays for loss.   I'm seriously impressed with Moore's skills in pursuit- he has some serious closing speed and can hunt down and make highlight plays behind the line of scrimmage against the run and pass."   Moore was everywhere on defense, recording 12.5 tackles (4 for loss). I've been really impressed with Moore's game for a while now. He flies around the field and defends the run and pass at a high level.   Be sure to check out some of his film from last week. I think Moore will continue to dominate this year.   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/_ktron11_/status/1962181525278961944 </div></figure>     [player_tooltip player_id='408641' first='Micah' last='Fleming'] is a dominant 2027 DB from Thompson we've been impressed by since the end of last season.   “Fleming is a lockdown corner who excels in coverage- he does a great job tracking opposing QBs' eyes and frequently breaks on routes to jar free/pick off passes. QBs actively avoid Fleming's side of the field; he provides such good coverage that some QBs won't even look his way.   Fleming also plays with incredible instincts and athleticism- he is terrific at identifying and reacting to plays, and has the speed to fly around the entire field and create huge stops regardless of where he lined up pre-snap.”   Fleming had another great showing this week, this time against one of the top teams in the nation in Grayson (GA). Fleming blocked a FG, recorded 6 tackles and 2 PBUs, and was rarely thrown at all night long. "Hampton is an every-down playmaker on Pelham's defensive front. He's a seriously impressive run defender who fights off blocks, closes down rushing lanes, and creates tackles up front for little to no gain.   I'm seriously impressed with Hampton's versatility. He can line up and produce both on and off-ball, and is also an impressive pass rusher who generates pressure and causes tons of problems for opposing QBs in the backfield."   Hampton had a heck of a game last week, recording 6 tackles (2 for loss), 4 QB hurries, 1 FF, and 1 FR. Hampton was a problem for Oak Mountain all night long. He consistently found his way into the backfield and was able to rush the passer and defend the run at a high level all game long.   Check out some of his Week 1 film below:      [player_tooltip player_id='1680281' first='Gabriel' last='Ervin'] is one of the top DL in our 2028 class, and man, he's had a huge start to this season.   "At 6'0 250, Ervin already has the size and athleticism to make some seriously impressive plays in the trenches. He plays with great leverage, has impressive strength/power, and can explode out of his stance to win matchups at the line of scrimmage."   Ervin has been dominant in his first two games. This past week against MGM, he recorded 5 total tackles (4 for loss) and one sack, consistently disrupting the LOS/backfield.   I've been a big fan of Ervin's since I watched him earlier this year. He's a seriously talented up-and-coming DL everyone should take notice of. "At 6'2 230, Price has the size, athleticism, and hands to be a dominant player in the trenches. He's quick off the snap, has impressive power, and has a set of quick, violent hands he uses to work around OL and get into the backfield.   Once in the backfield, Price has impressive closing speed and tackling technique he uses to pressure/take down the quarterback. I'm really impressed with Price's game and am excited to watch him down the stretch of this season- him and [player_tooltip player_id='212200' first='Tristan' last='Lyles'] make an awesome pairing on Central's defensive front."   Price was fantastic in his team's win over First Academy, recording 7 total tackles (6 solo, 3 for loss) and 2 sacks.   I'm seriously impressed with Price. I hadn't watched him up unitln this week, and man, he has a bright future ahead. I have a feeling we'll be hearing his name a ton over the next few years.
