Nathan Hale came into the 2024 football season looking to take the next step as a program. The Rangers have struggled for a long time but things were starting to point towards Nathan Hale turning things around. In the previous four seasons before kicking things off in 2024, Nathan Hale went a combined 0-37. That's not easy for anyone involved. But when the season kicked off in 2024, the Rangers were on the right side of the scoreboard for the first time since 2019. They would beat TPS foe Webster in the season opener. After back to back losses, they opened up district play with a 48-0 win over Memorial. All of a sudden, the Rangers went from a program that went 0-37 in the previous four seasons to starting the 2024 year with a 2-2 record. They were definitely taking steps in a positive direction. They would drop more games in district play but they also picked up their third win of the year. Ultimately, they finished the season with a 3-7 record. And in the games against the four playoff teams from the district, things did not go well. But the Rangers are a program that had to learn how to win first. The season ended at 3-7 and it was the first time they won at least three games in a season since 2010. Now, the Rangers are ready to take the next step and threaten for one of the four playoff spots in the district.

2025 OUTLOOK

Following the season, Isaiah Irvin stepped down following four seasons as Nathan Hale's head coach. The Rangers hired Jesse Jones as his replacement after he was an assistant coach at Jenks and most recently spent the last three seasons at Union. Jones inherits a program that has to replace the majority of their starters but they've also brought in a few new additions on both sides of the ball that should be instant impact players for the Rangers this season. Offensively, Nathan Hale brings back four starters but they also have a few new additions that should provide a spark. Last season, they averaged nearly 20 points per game and we think they can get over that number this season. Defensively, the Rangers bring back four starters but just like with the offense, they could end up being much improved, helped in large part to a few key additions. Overall, this is a Nathan Hale team that certainly has the potential to win more games than last season. But the reality of the situation is that they are going to be in a very competitive district in Class 5A. Del City is the headliner but Collinsville and Pryor are other top ten teams heading into the year. Then you have Claremore and Tahlequah that will be fighting and clawing for playoff positioning. So the Rangers have a tall task in front of them. But last season they took those first steps to winning games and now, they look to take the next step.

Senior linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='587269' first='Carmello' last='Williamson'] has been a 2026 linebacker we've had on our radar for quite a while. Williamson first burst onto the scene following his freshman season and he's another example of a prospect that feels like he's been in high school for more than three years already. Williamson is one of the returning starters for Nathan Hale on the defensive side of the ball. When we look at what the Rangers bring back from a personnel standpoint, we really like what they have on the front seven and Williamson should be the leader of that group with his experience.

If you're looking for a potential breakout star for the Rangers, senior [player_tooltip player_id='1683595' first='Dashaun' last='Brown'] might be the guy this season. Brown will be lining up at wide receiver and on defense in the secondary. Offensively, Brown gives the Rangers a complete playmaker that can beat defenses in the blink of an eye. We got a chance to watch Brown back in the spring at a team camp and he was really impressive at the wide receiver position. College coaches saw the same thing that we saw that day and he earned an offer. That was the first of many this offseason. He's a playmaker that needs more attention.

Senior defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1683598' first='JT' last='Kauffman'] is the first of several new additions to the Nathan Hale roster that you need to know about heading into the season. Kauffman came over to Nathan Hale from Jenks and he's going to be able to set the tone on the line of scrimmage. He's an absolute terror coming off the edge. We watched Kauffman quite a bit at that same team camp this spring. He brings a lot of skill to the table but the thing that stood out to us the most was his motor. He played with the same intensity on every snap. Like we said earlier, this front seven could be pretty talented.

Junior wide receiver and defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='1192769' first='Nizyah' last='Abraham'] is another new addition to the Nathan Hale lineup. He moved over from Union and could end up being Nathan Hale's most reliable threat on the offensive side of the ball. We've watched Abraham in person quite a bit in the last two offseasons and the one thing that always stands out is how consistent he is as a pass catcher. Abraham is pretty shifty in space as well so he's going to give the Rangers a threat after the catch. Abraham is definitely a player we're watching that could have a breakout season this fall.

Aug. 29th - AT Webster
- For the second straight year, Nathan Hale will open up the regular season against TPS foe Webster. Last season, they finally broke through and ended their lengthy losing streak with a 33-20 victory over Webster. They've won the last three meetings against the Warriors.
Sept. 4th - East Central
- Nathan Hale's home opener comes in week one as they will be the home team against another TPS foe in East Central. Last season, the Cardinals rolled to a 59-7 victory over the Rangers. This season, Nathan Hale looks to snap a five-game losing streak to East Central.
Sept. 19th - AT Skiatook
- Nathan Hale goes north to Skiatook to wrap up non-district play in week three. After a week off in week two, the Rangers return to the field here to face Skiatook. The Bulldogs beat the Rangers 42-12 last season. Nathan Hale is looking for their first win over the Bulldogs since 2012.
Sept. 25th - Memorial
- District play opens up in week four with a Thursday night game at home against Memorial. The Rangers would shut out the Chargers in 2024. It was their second win of the season as they beat Memorial 48-0. That was also their first win over the Chargers since beating them 21-17 in 2010.
Oct. 3rd - AT Claremore
- Nathan Hale hits the road to face Claremore in week five. The Zebras beat the Rangers 47-21 last season but they are also going to look pretty different this season with new faces on both sides of the ball. These two teams have met in district play every year since 2020. Claremore is 5-0 during that stretch.
Oct. 10th - Del City
- The second half of the regular season kicks off with a home game against defending district champion Del City. Last season was the first time these two teams met in recent memory and the Eagles rolled to a 62-0 win. When you're talking about measuring stick games, this would be the top one.
Oct. 17th - AT Pryor
- The Rangers hit the road in week seven to face a Pryor team that's coming into this season as a top five team in Class 5A. The Tigers beat the Rangers 57-6 last season. Similar to a few other district opponents, Pryor has been a district foe every year since 2020. Pryor has owned the series during that time.
Oct. 24th - W. Rogers
- In week eight, Nathan Hale will host the Rogers Ropers in district play. Last season, the Rangers rolled to a 55-20 victory. It was their second district victory of the season. It also snapped a three-game losing streak to the Ropers. They look to start a winning streak this year.
Oct. 31st - AT Collinsville
- On a Halloween Friday night in week nine, Nathan Hale heads up to Collinsville to take on the Cardinals. This is another program that the Rangers are looking for their first win in recent memory. These two have met every year since 2020 and the Cardinals have dominated, including last year's 48-0 win.
Nov. 6th - Tahlequah
- The regular season finale comes in week ten with Tahlequah coming to Tulsa to face the Rangers. These two teams have been district foes off and on for the last decade. The Tigers won 61-0 last season and the Rangers come into this season looking to snap a five-game losing streak.

The 2024 football season was full of “what ifs” for a lot of teams and programs across the state. Nathan Hale was originally slated to be in Class 4A after dropping down from 5A. But when several OKC-area private schools won a court case in April, it forced an emergency redistricting shuffle and all of a sudden, the Rangers were back in Class 5A as one of the smaller programs. Despite that, they were still able to take steps in the right direction but you can't help but wonder what if Nathan Hale stayed in Class 4A? Their original district in Class 4A might have been more competitive than the 5A one they played in during the 2024 season. But there's no doubt that the Rangers still took some positive steps in 2024 and now they enter the 2025 football season with some real momentum. The district is still brutal but the Rangers are hungry for their first playoff appearance in over 15 years and what would be just the second since 2000.
