Film Study: 2027 DB's - Prep Redzone

Throughout the summer, we will be looking at the 2026, 2027, 2028 NY recruiting classes. While stats show numbers, film shows the entire story. For this series we will be looking at 5 players in each position throughout the next three cycles. In this edition of DB Film Study we have [player_tooltip player_id='751267' first='JT' last='Vogel'], [player_tooltip player_id='1513262' first='Alexander' last='Johnson'], [player_tooltip player_id='1593108' first='Abe' last='Cushing'], [player_tooltip player_id='1339491' first='Dallante' last='Owens'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1105251' first='Dylan' last='Freeman'].    Standing at 6'2" 185-Pounds, [player_tooltip player_id='751267' first='JT' last='Vogel'] displays a solid build for a DB. The CBA-Syracuse prospect can also lineup at WR.   He is an athletic prospect who reads a QB and offense well. As a Sophomore he racked up over 100 tackles with 7 Pass Breakups and 3 Interceptions. He has excellent vision and body control, giving him the ability to jump a play at any time.   Vogel is an excellent prospect, The NY Prep Redzone Staff will see in early September. I will look for Vogel to show out as he is a cornerstone to the CBA-Albany defense.      Standing at 6'1" 175-Pounds, the LUHI prospect displays a solid build for a DB. He is an incredible athlete who can also lineup as OLB in coverage.   He is a player who could switch positions full time to LB. He has an excellent first step and reaches the POA quickly. His IQ is amazing as he reads the play from the snap and finds holes on the LOS to run through to make tackles. In coverage he has solid hands and good body control allowing him to keep up with opposing receivers.   Johnson is an excellent athlete for the stacked LUHI squad. Depth is in front of him at DB, making his ability at LB a huge strength in his game.      Standing at 6'0" 205-Pounds, [player_tooltip player_id='1593108' first='Abe' last='Cushing'] displays an excellent build for a DB. Given his frame he can lineup on the offense, mainly at RB, but reps at WR are possible.   The Cambridge/Salem prospect had an impressive season, tallying over 60 tackles with 3 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries. He has a high motor and quick first step, allowing him to rush the QB untouched. He is a true disruptor who affects every play he can and forces his opponents to make mistakes. He has a high IQ and can read a play before it develops.   Cushing is an intriguing prospect who attacks the offense in the pass rushing part of his game. I would like to see more coverage reps, but he is an excellent prospect.      Standing at 5'8" 170-Pounds, Owens displays an ok build for a DB. He can play on both sides of the field with snaps at RB and WR shown on tape.   Owens plays for a stacked Timon roster this fall. Alongside, 2027 DB [player_tooltip player_id='1339482' first='Amari' last='Worthy'], he makes a deadly duo for opposing offenses. On tape, he displays a good motor with a quick first step. He can jump plays and read an opposing offense well. He has solid body control and is able to change directions with his fluid hips in coverage.   Owens is an undersized athlete who uses size as a strength. He shows an impact on every play, helping a stacked BTSJ roster.      Standing at 6'1" 150-Pounds, [player_tooltip player_id='1105251' first='Dylan' last='Freeman'] displays an undersized build for a DB. The Stepinac prospect can look to gain good weight to improve his frame.   Freeman spent his Sophomore season on JV, given the stacked Stepinac roster. In his tape, he displays a great IQ, with an outstanding ability to read a defense. He can play sideline-sideline and effect every inch of the field on every play.   Freeman is a solid prospect who I expect to jump to the varsity level this fall. He is a name to watch at the DB position.
