With the 2025 season approaching, I want to take some time to look at five possible Class 6A breakout candidates in the WPIAL.

Herrick has had hype going into 2025 for a while now. Owen will be QB1 for Pittsburgh Central Catholic after transferring in from Seneca Valley in 2024. Herrick has incredible accuracy and can spin it on top of that. He throws with confidence and can work the middle part of the field. He has the total package and received his first D1 offer from Syracuse in June.

Luke is a three-sport athlete. He has excellent athleticism at tight end and on the defensive line. He possesses great play strength and shows a good motor. At tight end, Luke is used as an inline blocker. He has excellent technique and drives off contact. As a defensive lineman, he has great burst off the edge. He has a good bull rush and can drive tackles back viciously to get to the quarterback. With more to look at on film after the 2025 season, I believe Luke will be a bigger name than he already is.

Potter is a 3-way athlete for Norwin, playing DB, WR, and contributing to special teams. As a defender, he's rangy and lengthy. He has good motion in his hips and uses his instincts to make a play on the ball. He can play well in both man and zone coverage. As a receiver, the athleticism is evident. He has home run potential when the ball gets to his hands. Brozeski has good footwork and can create separation at any level. I'm excited to see what Potter can put on tape in 2025.

Easton is a stout run stuffer. He's quick to get after ball carriers and can shoot gaps before linemen can get to the lead block. He showcases good wrap tackling technique and the intelligence to know where to go to get to the ball. Easton put on some muscle going into his junior season, and I think that'll help him greatly.

Jansma is a textbook pocket passer. He stands tall and works his quick reads well. He gets to his second and third reads when needed. Ty doesn't have the biggest arm in terms of pushing the ball deep downfield, but he does have great velocity to hit closing windows and tight throws. With another season coming and some good targets to work with, I think Jansma is in for his biggest season yet.
