He looks like a high-level Division One prospect. I am excited to see him play next season as well. He has a bright future ahead of him.

He is a talented quarterback that I saw live throw the ball at our Prep Redzone Showcase last spring. I came away impressed with his mechanics and footwork as a quarterback. Then he dominated this season for Pittsburgh Central Catholic as they won the 6A WPIAL Title, and they continue to play for a PIAA State Title. Herrick is a talented quarterback and deserves the top-ranked spot as he continues to play at a high level for PCC.

He threw for 244 yards and 3 touchdowns. Herrick is a natural thrower of the football, possessing the skills to throw the ball accurately all over the field. He is an extremely accurate passer. Herrick and company are on a mission to win a 6A State Championship this year.

I saw him live at our Prep Redzone Showcase, and I came away impressed. He has excellent mechanics and footwork in the pocket. He feels extremely comfortable in the pocket, throwing the ball. He also has a rocket of an arm, and he knows how to make every throw. Herrick will need a big playoff run if PCC wins its 1st PIAA State Title since 2015.

Herrick has quickly become one of the most intriguing names in the WPIAL. After sitting out his freshman season due to transfer rules, this is his first year of high school football, and through three games he’s thrown for nearly 600 yards with five touchdowns and zero interceptions. That’s against Woodland Hills, Pine-Richland, and national powerhouse La Salle College, not easy teams. For a sophomore just starting out, that’s rare. Herrick has a missile for an arm and already flashes next-level velocity, likely helped by his baseball background. He can launch it 30 to 40 yards with ease, drive it into tight windows, and he does it with clean mechanics, calm footwork, smooth hips, and a compact release. Quarterback is as much mental as it is physical, and it’s usually a steep learning curve, but Herrick looks comfortable. If this is the baseline, it’s hard to imagine how good he’ll be with two more years of development. Right now, he looks like one of the best pure quarterback prospects in the 2028 class.

Herrick looked like the real deal and helped beat a team that central had fell to the past three seasons. For a sophomore making his first run as the guy, he showed composure and talent well beyond his years. He was in control from the opening snap calm, confident, and unshaken even with Pine-Richland bringing heat all night. When the Rams took their first lead late in the first half, Herrick didn’t blink. He marched Central 64 yards in just over a minute, capped by a 13-yard strike to Maceo Watkins with :25 left. That was a big-time drive in a big-time moment. He took hits, stood in against pressure, and delivered with zip and accuracy. Later, he slammed the door with a gutsy 4th-down play-action completion to Colsen Gatten Colsen Gatten 6'1" | 220 lbs | LB/ATH Central Catholic | 2026 State PA . Herrick already operates the RPO game with comfort, his mechanics are advanced, and the ball jumps out of his hand differently he’s got upper-echelon arm talent that separates him from most young quarterbacks. For only being a sophomore, his poise and polish are special. He’s already on Syracuse’s board, and it’s only a matter of time before Power Four programs stack up offers.

Herrick has had hype going into 2025 for a while now. Owen will be QB1 for Pittsburgh Central Catholic after transferring in from Seneca Valley in 2024. Herrick has incredible accuracy and can spin it on top of that. He throws with confidence and can work the middle part of the field. He has the total package and received his first D1 offer from Syracuse in June.

He has a chance to start this year for PCC and make a huge difference at the quarterback position. His ability to throw the ball at a high level is excellent. At the Showcase, he showed a high ability to throw the ball with accuracy. He has a chance to be a good quarterback once he is given an opportunity.

Herrick has a live arm to pair with his accuracy. Balls thrown over the middle are where Herrick stood out to me. His confidence as a passer throwing over the middle, layering and putting the ball in a spot where only his receiver can grab it were pretty special. Herrick has a live deep ball as well pairing for a lethal Quarterback prospect.
