August Recap: Running Back Roundup

Let's take a look at some notable running backs during August.    Eka has been electric and is the sparkplug to that Lehi offense. He is a complete back who is sensational in the open field and has the speed to finish his runs. He has great lateral explosiveness, added on good size to show consistent contact balance and running through arm tacklers, and he shows great vision to see holes forming behind the line and finding cutback lanes. Devaughn is a fantastic runner and just as effective in the passing game. He has soft hands, and being light on his feet allows him to be used as a running back who runs routes. He'll continue to garner D1 offers.     Parker is an electric runner and a phenomenal athlete. He is lightning quick and will make defenders miss in open space. He does it all for Weber; he'll be a returner, be effective in the passing game, and is elite in that offense and the run game for Weber. His long speed is terrific, and he is a jitterbug with the ball in his hands; he makes defenders miss in a phone booth and is a joy to watch. He'll continue to garner offers and will ultimately play on Saturdays.     Louie is an exceptional running back. He is a three-down back and the offseason size that he's put on has allowed him to be a more physical, bruising running back. He does well finishing off his runs and lowering his pads to deliver a hit on the opposing defender. He has great vision and explosive laterally. That short burst allows him to make defenders miss and he has the quickness to get to the edge and race him. He has soft hands, and not only is he a receiving back, but if matched up against a backer, his footwork and agility are too good and he'll be a mismatch in the receiving game. He runs routes and just doesn't take dump-offs. He's a running back who is being overlooked right now and should continue to garner offers. He's had a great start to the season and that will continue as region play commences.     Siaki is the focal point of the offense and mainted his effectiveness even with a heavy defensive box. He showcases good vision and patience behind the line. He uses his lateral exposiveness and elusivity to get past the first level and then to the edge and race for him. He has done a good job showcasing good contact balance and being able to finish his runs with contact. He's a complete back and a weapon in the receiving game. Once Bountiful hits region play and the offense can get settled in, Siaki will be ready for 30+ touches a game. He's a player who should get D1 offers and find a home at the next level on national signing day.     Tahi made his seasonal debut and looked fantastic. He blends speed and physicality well and has good vision and patience as a runner. He should jump-start that running game, and Tahi is an exceptional runner who should garner D1 offers.     Kingston has shined in his limited opportunities. He is one of my favorite runners to watch in the class. He moves exceptionally well and is light on his feet, and does a good job of churning his legs and driving for additional yards. He's a runner who is elusive and has good hip fluidity. In open space, he'll make a defender miss, and he is a runner who will finish off his runs.     Lincoln has done a tremendous job with his opportunity and the transfer was one of the biggest this offseason. He's a player who has always flashed. He is a good runner, with good vision, and does well getting to the edge and showcasing his speed. His hands have always been his calling card. He has great hands and is deadly in the passing game; he will run routes and not someone who just takes dump-offs. He's showcased all of his traits thus far and should garner offers to play at the next level.     Briggs has been exceptional this season. He is a physical and bruising back that shows good quickness and agility. He has soft hands as a receiver and is a bellcow back. He has the contact balance to absorb defenders, and he has the quickness to spurt away. He's been fantastic the past couple of seasons and should get offers that come his way.     Tolman is quietly having a fantastic season. He showcases good vision and sees the cutback lanes before they fully develop, and will use his lateral quickness to get to the lane, and does well in getting small through the first level. Once he clears that he has the physicality to lower his pads and run through a defender, or use his speed and make that defender miss and race for home. He is a durable running back who can take a heavy workload. He's a complete three-down running back with soft hands in the receiving game. He is deadly in the open space as he'll make defenders miss in a phone booth and shows good creativity with the ball in his hands.     Nieves has done an exceptional job running over the competition so far. He's too good an athlete against the competition of play he sees every week. He moves well. showcases good speed to get to the edge, and he is a complete running back who is effective in the passing game. He has a nice size and has a frame that should continue to fill out. He's been exceptional and will be the best player on the field when he suits up weekly.     Ober saw playing time last year as a freshman and looked like a good runner. He's come into the current season and has exploded. Against lower competition, he's looked great. He's a superior athlete against the defenders he is seeing. He has good vision, the cutback lanes will develop, and he has the quickness to get there and through. In the open field, you see his athleticism and his creativity with the ball in his hands.
