With the 2025 high school football season just around the corner in the Volunteer State, it's time to focus our attention on Class 3A in Tennessee as there are a ton of outstanding programs looking to make their mark this season. Programs such as Melrose, Westview, Covington, White House-Heritage, Tyner Academy, Meigs County, and Gatlinburg-Pittman are all serious contenders for the class 3A title while Johnson County, Sequatchie County, Camden Central, and Dyersburg also have a shot this upcoming season. Without any question, Class 3A is going to make for some top tier football action this fall.

Contenders

Melrose

The Golden Wildcats are looking to build off of their success last season as Melrose closed out the 2024-25 campaign with a 12-4 overall record. The Golden Wildcats will be one of the top teams to beat in Class 3A as they have an impressive defense and have retained several talented prospects in [player_tooltip player_id='1587004' first='Gerrard' last='Kaufman'], [player_tooltip player_id='1103458' first='Tavarco' last='Jackson'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1037302' first='Thomas' last='Heffner'].

Westview

The Chargers are another team within Class 3A that should be difficult to dethrone this upcoming season as Westview posted an impressive 14-1 record last year, falling short to Alcoa in the playoffs. There is an assortment of talent returning to the fold for Westview this fall as I believe the Chargers will be loaded offensively. Returners like [player_tooltip player_id='1103496' first='Asa' last='Barnes'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1422977' first='Miles' last='Brown'] should really help make a difference for Westview during the 2025 season.

Covington

The Covington Chargers are another storied program within Class 3A that has high chances at winning the championship this season as Covington finished last year with a 11-2 overall record. The Chargers additionally suffered only one loss in their district. Covington should make a big difference this fall with returning players like [player_tooltip player_id='1621943' first='Jackson' last='Kirby'], [player_tooltip player_id='1659259' first='Jaheim' last='Smith'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1650784' first='Ty' last='Beard'].

White House-Heritage

The Patriots should also have a decent shot at winning the 3A title this year as White House-Heritage is coming off a decent 2024-25 season, posting a 9-4 overall record as well as an undefeated record in district play. The Patriots are looking to have a great year on offense as returning senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1593632' first='Xavier' last='M. George-Murray'] will be at the helm of White House-Heritage's offense once again this season.

Tyner Academy

The Rams are looking like a tough team within class 3A this season as Tyner Academy is looking to improve on their progression last year, closing out the year with a 6-5 overall record. Tyner Academy was also nearly undefeated in district competition, losing only one game. The Rams should have a good shot at the title with a number of significant returners that are looking to make an impact.

Meigs County

The Tigers will be another title contender this upcoming season as Meigs County finished out the 2024-25 campaign with a 9-4 overall record and a 4-1 mark in district games. The Tigers should have a solid offensive unit this upcoming season with several returners that can help build upon Meigs County's success on the field last year. Returners like [player_tooltip player_id='1590690' first='Ethan' last='Shaver'] and incoming freshman [player_tooltip player_id='1294853' first='Lee' last='Parris'] should be interesting to watch as the Tigers look to make a name for themselves this season.

Gatlinburg-Pittman

The Highlanders are another favorite to win the Class 3A title as Gatlinburg-Pittman is looking to improve on an already great 2024-25 season. The Highlanders posted a 9-4 overall record and a 4-1 mark in district play. The Highlanders have some talented prospects on both sides of the football returning to the fold this fall in [player_tooltip player_id='1182191' first='Brayden' last='Maples'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1432214' first='Craig' last='Huskey'].

Sleepers

Johnson County

The Longhorns are one of several sleepers within Class 3A to watch out for as Johnson County is looking to build upon their success from last season. In the 2024-25 season, Johnson County went 8-3 overall and 4-1 in district competition. The Longhorns were also able to knock off several tough opponents last season and should be able to improve with all of their returning talent. Johnson County is definitely a 3A title sleeper to watch closely in the 2025-26 campaign.

Sequatchie County

The Indians are another sleeper within 3A to keep an eye on as Sequatchie County closed out the 2024-25 season with a 12-2 overall record and an undefeated run in district play. The Indians have a real shot at upsetting the natural order as they have retained a number of talented prospects that can make big plays. I would expect lots of minutes for returning prospects like [player_tooltip player_id='454466' first='Jack' last='Evitts'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1547372' first='Harrison' last='Smith'].

Camden Central

The Lions should be dangerous this upcoming season as Camden Central is looking to become a powerhouse within Class 3A and improve upon last season. The Lions closed out the 2024-25 year with a 4-6 overall record and a 1-6 mark in district games. I believe the Lions are going to be much more efficient this upcoming season and could potentially upset some of the top teams. Camden Central has several returners to watch for in [player_tooltip player_id='932838' first='Jake' last='Reynoldson'], [player_tooltip player_id='932837' first='Eli' last='Kee'], and [player_tooltip player_id='932835' first='Isaiah' last='Goodwin'].

Dyersburg

The Trojans are also looking like a potential sleeper team that could make a run for the 3A title. Dyersburg made a good impression on the field last year, recording a 7-5 overall record and a 4-3 mark in district competition. The Trojans should be even stronger on both sides of the ball this year as a mutltitude of talented players are returning. Returners like [player_tooltip player_id='1275120' first='Jysen' last='Grant'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1654093' first='Peyton' last='Hill'] should make a big impact for Dyersburg in the 2025-26 season.
