A new season is quickly approaching. Updated rankings are being released, and we'll be kicking off preseason coverage before long.

It's still early July, however. There's plenty of time to keep rolling out student-athlete evaluations as we grow our data base here at Prep Redzone Iowa.

Here's a look at a group of juniors deserving of reports on their profile pages, which they now have:

Wilson stood out as a sophomore last season at Des Moines East, where he was a second-team all-district selection on the field and academic all-district off of it. He'll join the four-time defending Class 5A state champion Rams, adding to an already strong returning front. That's potentially worrisome for future opponents when we watch Wilson operating during his 10th-grade highlight video. He's an athletic, long-limbed tackle that can move. Wilson's ceiling is considerable if it all comes together. He already has a good feel for the position, smoothly reaching blocks in space and moving well laterally. Wilson enjoys physicality and playing through the whistle.

It's still coming together for Mahr midway through his prep career, and it feels like a breakout might be on the way. The foundation was laid last season, when he led the Cadets in catches (19), receiving yards (154) and touchdown receptions (2). He added a two-point conversion. Mahr's sophomore highlight video reveals a big, physical receiver with good speed. Cresco uses him on sweeps, where he runs over, around and by opponents. It will fun tracking Mahr's development this season. It could be becoming a college prospect at that position or growing into a tight end. Either way, the future looks bright.

Long has a strong sophomore season of 2024 on which to build. He piled up 30.0 tackles (20 solo, 1.0 TFL) and two fumble recoveries, mauling opponents in the middle of the defensive line. Long is quick off of the snap and in getting around blocks. He uses his hands well in avoiding and disengaging from them. Long shows that during his 10th-grade highlight video. He carries his weight well and moves quick laterally. Long's skillset also would work on the offensive line, if a college saw that as his best path.

Hein got his feet wet as a sophomore on the varsity last season, which could set him up for a larger role in 2025. His main contributions a year ago came on defense, where he recorded 19.5 tackles (13 solo, .5 TFL). He also caught a pass. Hein flashes the potential to provide more for the Panthers as a junior during his 10th-grade highlight video. Lining up in the middle of the second level, Hein diagnoses what's coming pre-snap setting him on a path to the ball. He reads how the play is unfolding and flows well to the ball carrier. Hein is a sound tackler.

Solon does well in producing specialists and the program boasts a pair of solid place-kickers right now. One of McKie's main attributes is his versatility. He connected on 14 extra-points as a sophomore in 2024 and also punted seven times. The Spartans graduated their punter, so McKie has an opportunity there. He also will take a crack at more chances kicking. During his 10th-grade highlight video, McKie displays power in his left leg in splitting the uprights. He generates it with a repeatable process and easy swing. There definitely could be more in the tank with two years of high school remaining.

Muller got the job done on both sides of the ball last season. The sophomore racked up 57.5 tackles (43 solo, 5.5 TFL), and rushed for 287 yards and three scores. Muller's 10th-grade highlight video reveals a football player guided by physicality. It's embraced and utilized. Muller gets downhill quickly whether pounding the ball between the tackles or flying to it for a stop. The Green Devils take advantage of Muller's size and athleticism on defense, moving him around the formation and exploiting of mismatches.
