We have just completed the largest update to the Nebraska Class of 2027 rankings, resulting in over 100 new names in our database and a completely revamped rankings list. To cover some of the new players and risers, I will provide positional overviews that offer a quick breakdown of a few players in each group, as well as share any relevant recruiting news on those prospects. Keep an eye out, as we will also be conducting player evaluations, where I will provide a more in-depth game tape breakdown as part of the update coverage.

[player_tooltip player_id='499433' first='Mason' last='Cotton'] (@mason_cotton1) - Lincoln Southeast's [player_tooltip player_id='499433' first='Mason' last='Cotton'] is an interesting pass-catching prospect who we have listed as a tight end, but is versatile and athletic enough to be split out wide like a receiver. Cotton finished second on the team in receiving last season after recording 21 catches, 208 receiving yards, and five receiving touchdowns. Mason is a legit threat at all levels of the field with physicality and toughness to win over the middle and the explosiveness to stretch the field vertically. Strong hands and concentration through the catch process. Good route running and mobility, especially for his bigger 6'3", 210 pounds. Mason has already started to draw college attention, with his first offer coming from Tennessee-Martin.

[player_tooltip player_id='1699288' first='Zach' last='Wolfe'] (@Zach_Wolfe18) - Elkhorn North's [player_tooltip player_id='1699288' first='Zach' last='Wolfe'] is on my list of potential breakout candidates this fall after giving us impressive glimpses of his skillset as a sophomore. Wolfe's 2024 production was limited to just 11 receptions for 93 yards, but his impact went deeper than the stats. Wolfe's blocking skills also stood out on tape, displaying a good mix of power, technique, and leverage to clear out defenders as a run blocker. The 6'4", 205-pound tight end does a good job using his size and length to take advantage of coverage mismatches and to stay upright when battling through contact after the catch. Zach might be the biggest pass catcher on the Wolves' offense, so I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes the first look in redzone situations.

[player_tooltip player_id='1192532' first='Landon' last='Dean'] (@LandonDean42) - Bridgeport's [player_tooltip player_id='1192532' first='Landon' last='Dean'] is a prospect with true two-way upside at tight end and LB, but for now we have him listed as a tight end. Landon had a productive sophomore campaign after recording 24 receptions, 322 yards, five receiving touchdowns, 37 tackles, eight TFLs, a sack, and a defensive touchdown. Dean stands out at 6'3", 215 pounds, with room to continue filling out his frame in these upcoming seasons. Landon is a reliable tight end who possesses the mean streak to be effective as a blocker and athleticism to beat defenders over the middle. Big, strong hands to make contested catches with ease and enough burst to pick up extra yardage after the catch. Defensively, Landon does an excellent job setting the edge against the run and has the strength to bull rush his way into backfields.

[player_tooltip player_id='1242618' first='Jonathan' last='Ashburn'] (@J_Ashburn1) - Although injuries may have cut Pius X's [player_tooltip player_id='1242618' first='Jonathan' last='Ashburn']'s season short, he still put enough on tape to warrant keeping a close eye on this fall. The 6'5", 210-pound prospect plays an interesting tight end/H-back hybrid role where he acts as an extension to the offensive line with his blocking abilities. There are still some raw areas to Jonathan's game, but given his measurables and plenty of playing opportunities in 2025, could help catapult his recruitment and development.

[player_tooltip player_id='1085195' first='Anthony' last='Kellogg II'] (@AnthonyKel36191) - Junior [player_tooltip player_id='1085195' first='Anthony' last='Kellogg II'] is another prospect who will be looking to carve out a bigger role in the upcoming season. Transferring over from Omaha Central to Omaha North, Anthony joins a pass catchers group that took a hit after graduation, with two of their top three receivers heading off to the next level. Regardless, Kellogg's 6'2", 210-pound frame should provide the Vikings a tall, big-bodied tight end who can be an effective blocker and attack the middle of the field. Big upside!
