We have just completed the largest update to the Nebraska Class of 2027 rankings, resulting in over 100 new names in our database and a completely revamped rankings list. To cover some of the new players and risers, I will provide positional overviews that offer a quick breakdown of a few players in each group, as well as share any relevant recruiting news on those prospects. Keep an eye out, as we will also be conducting player evaluations, where I will provide a more in-depth game tape breakdown as part of the update coverage.

[player_tooltip player_id='1192526' first='Turner' last='Hanke'] (@turnerhanke) - Central City's [player_tooltip player_id='1192526' first='Turner' last='Hanke'] is an exciting prospect in this recruiting cycle with strong position projections as a linebacker or receiver at the next level. Turner was very productive as a sophomore, recording 42 receptions, 712 yards, 14 receiving touchdowns, 54 tackles, 10 TFLs, five sacks, two interceptions (one pick-six), a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Hanke is an explosive athlete who reports a 4.47 40-yard dash and a 21.81 200m dash while standing at 6'2" and 205 pounds. This speed gives him the edge over defensive backs, making him a dangerous deep threat with home run capabilities from anywhere on the field. Defensively, Hanke is a dominant presence at outside linebacker,r where he can set the edge against the run, rush the passer, or drop into coverage with ease. Great instincts and is a natural playmaker. North Dakota State and South Dakota State have both decided to jump on board with a pair of early offers. Big season coming up for Turner and the Bison!

[player_tooltip player_id='1192531' first='Andrej' last='Sabatka'] (@AndrejSabatka) - Hastings St. Cecilia's [player_tooltip player_id='1192531' first='Andrej' last='Sabatka'] is another central Nebraska prospect with very interesting versatility and athleticism. Sabatka stands out immediately at 6'4", 255 pounds with elite length and experience on the defensive line, offensive line, and tight end with solid upside at either of those positions. Sabatka impresses with his non-stop motor and the ease with which he moves at his size, flashing a quick get-off and the agility to track down backs and QBs. Great speed to power with effective use of hands at the point of attack. Andrej is a physical blocker who can serve as an extension of the offensive line in the run game or be utilized to take advantage of mismatches in the passing game. Despite an up-and-down season for the Blue Hawks, Andrej was still able to record 26 receptions, 268 receiving yards, two touchdowns, 61 tackles, nine TFLs, two sacks, and a fumble recovery. Very high ceiling!

[player_tooltip player_id='1085194' first='Cale' last='Sheets'] (@CaleSheets) - Archbishop-Bergan's [player_tooltip player_id='1085194' first='Cale' last='Sheets'] has been about as consistent as you can ask for since entering the high school ranks. Breaking out as a freshman, Cale continued that momentum into his sophomore season, taking the next step with 35 receptions, 783 receiving yards, nine touchdowns, 22 tackles, a TFL, and two interceptions. Part of what makes Cale such a standout already is his true two-way upside as a receiver and defensive back. At receiver, Cale is a smooth route runner who flashes clean footwork, sharp breaks, and the ability to create separation at the top of the route. He is very physical and aggressive at the catch point with the concentration to hang on to the ball through contact. A threat in all three levels of the field. As a sophomore, Cale played a unique role on defense, serving as a hybrid nickel/outside linebacker who could line up close to the line of scrimmage but also kick out to cover the hook/curl zones and the flats. He could also line up on a receiver, where he can utilize his coverage skills and fluidity to stay in their hip pockets throughout the route. Cale has already started to turn some heads with his first offer from Peru State.

[player_tooltip player_id='1588476' first='Quin' last='Schutt'] (@QuinSchutt) - Bishop Neumann returns a good group of starters from a squad that made it to the state championship a season ago, including junior [player_tooltip player_id='1588476' first='Quin' last='Schutt']. Quin finished third on the team with 85 total tackles, 4.5 TFLs, and a blocked kick. Schutt is a versatile defender who can be a chess piece-type player, one that you can drop anywhere on the defense, including as an extra body to stack the box against the run or at safety, where he can cover the middle to deep zones of the field. Schutt also displayed the athleticism to move play as a nickel corner. Physical tackler who can win 1v1s in the open field. Schutt's intense motor and tireless pursuit always put him in a great position to make a play. Quin could also see a bigger role offensively this season. Lots to like from Schutt's sophomore tape!

[player_tooltip player_id='1306527' first='Luke' last='Shoemaker'] (@lukeshoemaker27) - When the Central Valley backfield took a big midseason blow with an injury to senior Grady Kelley, (then) sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1306527' first='Luke' last='Shoemaker'] stepped up nicely as the Cougars would go on to capture the D2 title. In his relief efforts, Luke rushed 98 times for 1,059 yards and 16 touchdowns with an additional 108 yards and two touchdowns as a receiver. Shoemaker displayed good twitch with the ball in his hands, showing he can make quick, decisive cuts to bounce runs to the outside with the burst to break away from defenses. He was also a key contributor on defense, where he tallied 109 tackles, two TFLs, and an interception. Playing LB, Shoemaker showed he can instinctively fit the opposing run game and is a secure tackler when he gets to the ball. Luke will be one of the Cougars' top players as they battle to make a run at repeat titles.
