Throughout the month of July and even into August, we are publishing well over 100 of the most in-depth team previews that you'll find anywhere to get you completely ready for the 2025 football season. This is something that began for us at PRZ-Oklahoma in 2021 and it continues to get bigger and better every single year. We're looking forward to diving deep into the top teams across the state in every class. From defending champions, to the top contenders and plenty of dark horses and other teams to know, we'll have complete coverage every single day. There will be multiple previews dropping every single day! In this post, we take a look at the Metro Christian Patriots!

Metro Christian Patriots

Preseason Prep Redzone Ranking: #3 In Class 2A-1

Head Coach: Jared McCoy - 18th Season - 172-40 Record At Metro Christian

2024 RESULTS (12-1 Record - Lost In Class 2A-1 Semifinals)

Aug. 30th - Beat Chisholm 21-12
Sept. 13th - Beat Cascia Hall 21-14
Sept. 20th - Beat NOAH 48-7
Sept. 27th - Beat Dewey 48-7
Oct. 4th - Beat Chandler 35-0
Oct. 10th - Beat Sperry 48-0
Oct. 17th - Beat Central 42-8
Oct. 25th - Beat Westville 56-0
Nov. 1st - Beat Webster 56-6
Nov. 8th - Beat Tahlequah Sequoyah 49-7
1st Round - Beat Bethel 55-6
Quarterfinals - Beat Jones 27-21
Semifinals - Lost To Washington 46-7

2024 Offensive Scoring Average: 39.5 Points Per Game
2024 Defensive Scoring Average: 10.3 Points Per Game

The Metro Christian Patriots dropped back down from 3A into the newly formed Class 2A-1 in 2024 and instantly became one of the top teams in the class. They opened the season with a pair of close victories over Chisholm and Cascia hall in the first few weeks but from there, the Patriots were incredibly dominant. They closed out non-district play with a 41-point victory and that was just the beginning as they absolutely steam-rolled through the district slate. Metro Christian would finish off the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record, running away with the district championship. They would win every single district game by at least 30 points, with their closest district win coming in a 34-point win over Central. But it didn't take long to realize that the path was going to get much tougher in the playoffs because of the way the districts aligned on the bracket. After beating Bethel in the first round, they would host Jones in the quarterfinal match-up. Jones was another top five team in Class 2A-1 but after they lost to Millwood in the regular season, they were a two-seed coming out of their district. Metro Christian would prevail 27-21 but that would set up a semifinal showdown with the defending champs from Washington. That's where the season would come to an end after the Warriors won 46-7, on their way to a fourth consecutive state championship. A Metro offense that had averaged north of 40 points per game coming into the semifinals was held to just 7 points. Class 2A and 2A-1 has been owned by Washington but it would have been interesting to see if Metro Christian would have made a run to the title game if they were on the other side of the bracket. But after two runner up finishes in the last three seasons, Metro Christian is hungrier than ever for gold.

2025 OUTLOOK

The Patriots come into this season as a top five team in Class 2A-1 and the expectation is (and should be) to win the district championship and set themselves up for another run at the state championship. Five starters are back on the offensive side of the ball for a unit that averaged around 40 points per game. And when you're talking about Metro Christian offenses, the conversation usually starts around the quarterback position. They'll have a two-year starter there and he has most of his weapons back at the skill positions. That's certainly going to set the Patriots up to have a big season on that side of the ball. One area to watch will be the offensive line as Metro Christian will need new guys to step up there. Defensively, Metro will bring back four starters on that side of the ball and that's an area where it could be a work in progress throughout the season. They are more inexperienced on that side and will need those new starters to grow up quickly. The non-district schedule is a tough one again, headlined by that showdown with a Cascia Hall team that expects to contend for the 3A state championship this season. But when you look at the district right now, Metro Christian is the favorite to run away with it again. Will they win every district game by 30+ points for the second straight year? We're not predicting that. But they are in a good position to run the table in the regular season for the second straight year. And like we mentioned before, Class 2A-1 is under the ownership of Washington at the moment. And if both teams win their respective districts, and they are favored to, they will once again be on the same side of the bracket when the playoffs begin. But there is a lot of football to be played between now and November. And for Metro Christian, and really anybody in Class 2A-1, to be the champ, you gotta beat the champ. So they won't hide from a fight in 2025.

KEY LOSSES TO GRADUATION

Eason Wagenblatt - Offensive Lineman (All State Honorable Mention)
Jake Campbell - Offensive Lineman (All State Honorable Mention)
Kaeden Goodman - Wide Receiver (All State Honorable Mention)

PLAYERS TO WATCH

The Metro Christian defense is an area where the Patriots lack the most experience returning. But they will have senior linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1705450' first='Carson' last='Marti'] back and they are incredibly excited about his potential this season. He has really good size and the Patriots use him as an outside linebacker, where has the flexibility to line up more as an edge rusher or drop back in pass coverage. He checks a lot of the boxes from a physicality standpoint. He's big, fast and more importantly, he's incredibly explosive. So while Metro Christian figures out some of the other areas of their defense, having a player like Marti back will take some pressure off those new faces.

Senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='1705452' first='Cooper' last='Mitchell'] returns for his third season as a starter for the Metro Christian offense. Last season, Mitchell would have a breakout season, becoming one of the more productive running backs in Class 2A-1. He would be selected as an All State Honorable Mention pick and he comes into this season with a ton of momentum. The Patriots could be incredibly explosive on the offensive side of the ball. The weapons they have in the passing game are really good. And that could be the perfect combination for Mitchell as defenses will try to limit the passing game and that will open the door for Mitchell to be very productive when they run the ball.

(2024 All State Honorable Mention)

Whenever you have a player that received significant playing time and played meaningful minutes as a freshman, it always catches your attention. Sophomore wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1705459' first='Finn' last='Kouplen'] returns for the Patriots after helping them in the run game and as a pass catcher. We're very excited to see what kind of leap Kouplen makes from his freshman to sophomore seasons. He was labeled by the Metro Christian coaches as a playmaker and you throw on the film and you see just that. He looked just as comfortable lining up in the slot and making plays as a wide receiver as he did lining up in the backfield and breaking off a long run. Playmaker is the correct word.

Senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1292050' first='Kincayde' last='Eng'] returns for his second season as QB1 of the Patriots and like we mentioned earlier in the preview, when the Patriots have returning experience at the quarterback position, they are usually in a good spot offensively. Eng had a breakout season last fall and we're expecting him to tear up Class 2A-1 this fall. According to Metro Christian's coaches, Eng has looked bigger, faster, stronger and throws the ball with more accuracy and confidence. All of that combines for the potential of a big 2025 season. And when you combine those things with the fact that he has most of his skill players returning, you'll have one of the top signal callers in the class.

(2024 All State Honorable Mention)

Senior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1161909' first='Ty' last='Guest'] returns for his third season as a starter in the Metro Christian offense and we are very excited to see what kind of season he has this fall. Simply put, he is absolutely electric with the football in his hands after the catch. We caught Guest in person back in the spring and watched plenty of film from last season and the bubble screen with Guest on the receiving end quickly became a money play for the Patriots. Guest has legit speed and he's not a small guy. We watched first hand that he wasn't just outrunning defenders. He has the ability to lower the shoulder and bounce off tacklers. Guest should be one of the top receivers in 2A-1 this season.

MORE NAMES TO KNOW

[player_tooltip player_id='1235924' first='Blake' last='Parmley'] - 2026 Defensive Back
Braxton Fisher - 2026 Offensive Lineman
Carter Flam - 2028 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back
[player_tooltip player_id='1832354' first='Cort' last='Carlisle'] - 2026 Offensive Lineman
Easton Pinter - 2027 Offensive/Defensive Lineman
[player_tooltip player_id='1705756' first='Gavin' last='Thompson'] - Defensive Back
Grayson Collins - Wide Receiver
Holden Kennon - 2026 Offensive Lineman
Josiah Hassell - 2026 Wide Receiver
[player_tooltip player_id='1689516' first='Laken' last='Lee'] - 2028 Quarterback

2025 SCHEDULE

Aug. 29th - Chisholm
- For the second straight year, Metro Christian opens up their regular season against Chisholm. Last season, the Patriots had to make the lengthy trip out west but this year, they get to host the Longhorns. Chisholm will have a new head coach and Metro won 21-12 in last year's meeting.
Sept. 12th - AT Cascia Hall
- Despite being five miles away, last season's regular season meeting was the first between these two teams since 2005. They've had a handful of playoff meetings since then. Metro Christian would beat the Commandos 21-14 last season and this year's match-up should be close as well.
Sept. 19th - NOAH
- The non-district schedule comes to a close in week three, with a home game against NOAH. These two teams have met in non-district play in each of the last five seasons. Metro Christian has been dominant in the recent series and this series as a whole. They've won ten straight meetings overall.
Sept. 26th - Dewey
- The Patriots will host Dewey to open up district play in week four. The Patriots beat the Bulldoggers 48-7 in last season's meeting. With the redistricting shuffle, Dewey was one of several new district opponents that Metro hadn't faced in a while. Their last meeting was in 2013.
Oct. 3rd - AT Chandler
- Chandler was another new district opponent for the Patriots last season. Coming into the 2024 season, this looked like it could have been the most competitive district match-up. Metro Christian rolled to a 35-0 victory. This season, the Patriots will go on the road to face the Lions.
Oct. 10th - Sperry
- The second half of the regular season kicks off here with a home game against Sperry. Last season, the Patriots came out fast and dominated the Pirates 48-0 on the road. Just like the rest of the district schedule, Sperry was a new opponent with the only other meeting in the last decade coming in the 2021 playoffs.
Oct. 16th - AT Central
- On a Fall Break Thursday night, Metro Christian heads north to face off with Tulsa Central. Last season, the Patriots won 42-8 and as we mentioned earlier, that ended up being the closest district contest Metro had all year. Last season's meeting was the first since 2015.
Oct. 24th - Westville
- Metro Christian's last regular season home takes place in week eight against Westville. The Patriots would roll to a 56-0 victory over Westville last season, in their first meeting in nearly 15 years. The 56-point win ended up being the largest margin of victory for Metro last season.
Oct. 31st - AT Webster
- On a Halloween Friday night in week nine, the Patriots will make a short road trip to Daniel Webster to face the Warriors. Webster became a new district opponent last season and it was Metro Christian's first meeting in recent memory. The Patriots rolled to a 56-6 victory in 2024.
Nov. 7th - AT Tahlequah Sequoyah
- The regular season comes to an end here with a road game against Tahlequah Sequoyah. Metro Christian would beat the Indians 49-7 last season. Prior to last year, these two teams hadn't met in over a decade. At this point of the year, Metro will be looking for momentum into the playoffs.

NOTABLE

Metro Christian head coach Jared McCoy has to be considered one of the best high school football coaches in the Tulsa area. And there are some really good ones but McCoy feels underrated in our opinion. Just look at the numbers. McCoy is going into his 18th season as head coach of the Patriots and he's won 172 games while losing just 40. He's averaging nearly ten wins per season. He's coming off a 12-1 season and over the last decade, the Patriots have been one of the best teams in whatever class they are playing in. And there's the other part about what makes Metro's run so special. They are moving up and down constantly because of enrollment and overall success of the football program. We're just a few years removed from them playing for the Class 3A state championship in 2022 after they won back to back 2A state championships in 2019 and 2020. There aren't many active head coaches that have more wins than McCoy and he's going to be knocking on the door of 200 wins before we know it. And for those unfamiliar with McCoy's game, he coaches every game from the press box. His defensive coordinator Adam Taylor handles things on the sidelines. And as you can tell from the main message of this preview, we like Metro Christian to once again be one of the top teams in their class this season.

LAST FIVE SEASONS

2024 - 12-1 - Lost In Class 2A-1 Semifinals
2023 - 8-3 - Lost In Class 3A 1st Round
2022 - 13-1 - Class 3A Runner Ups
2021 - 8-4 - Lost In Class 2A 2nd Round
2020 - 12-2 - Class 2A State Champions

CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY

2 State Championships

2020 - Beat Washington 48-37
2019 - Beat Vian 42-34
