The Fairview Yellowjackets came into the 2024 football season as back to back state champions with a 30-game winning streak. They were the preseason favorite to capture another state championship in the new Class A as it was split into two divisions. That winning streak would keep growing in 2024. They nearly had it snapped in the second game of the season. They faced Kingston in week one and scored in the final minute to beat the Redskins 35-28. From there, they would dominate their opponents, setting up a championship rematch and a 1 VS 2 battle in the panhandle against Hooker in week seven. Fairview's 36-game winning streak came to an end that night as the Bulldogs dominated the line of scrimmage in a 38-7 statement win. From there, Fairview bounced back, winning their next three games, all by 20+ points and finishing the regular season at 9-1. They shut out Wynnewood in the first round and then had to travel to Owasso to face Rejoice Christian in the quarterfinals. After their star quarterback suffered an injury, the Yellowjackets would fall 34-7 and Rejoice would go on to capture the state championship a few weeks later. Fairview's season came to an end at 10-2. Even though it wasn't the finish that Fairview had grown accustomed to over the last several years, it was still another 10-win season and the Yellowjackets were still one of the top teams in their class.

2025 OUTLOOK

As Fairview turns the page to 2025, they begin a new era of Yellowjacket football. For the first time in several years, they'll have a new quarterback under center. They also have to replace a very productive senior class so because of all that, they are one of the more intriguing teams to watch as we kick off the 2025 football season. There are more questions than answers at this point but this is still a team that has to be taken seriously in Class A-1. Five starters return on the offensive side of the ball and while all eyes will be on the new quarterback, the Yellowjackets also bring back some productive talent at the skill positions. They averaged 40 points per game last season and if this unit grows up quickly, they could flirt with that number again in 2025. Defensively, Fairview brings back the majority of their starters and we could see this be the strength of the team in 2025. Seven starters return on the defensive side of the ball. Just like with the offense, they have to replace some key experience and overall production but they still have the potential to be very good on that side of the ball. Fairview's coaches expect this team to grow up quickly because they are going to have to. The non-district schedule is going to be incredibly competitive and the district should be a challenge as well with both Cashion and Hooker looking like strong teams. But anyone who is writing off Fairview because of the losses to graduation would be making a big mistake.

All eyes will be on junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1743235' first='Aiden' last='Nightingale'] as he looks to replace the best quarterback in school history. That's obviously not an easy task but Nightingale brings a lot of athleticism to the position and we're looking forward to seeing what impact he can have on offense. We don't know much about his game on offense but he will have some productive skill players returning with him so that should limit the growing pains he might have early on. Defensively, Nightingale had a really good season last year from the secondary. He finished with nearly 50 tackles and was one of Class A-1's leaders in interceptions as he had eight on the year.

Joining Nightingale in the backfield will be junior running back [player_tooltip player_id='1743237' first='Alex' last='Houk'] and we cannot wait to see what kind of production he has this season. Sharing the backfield with Bernard could lead to Houk being somewhat overshadowed last season. But he was incredibly productive as a sophomore. He finished with nearly 700 yards and 12 touchdowns on less than 100 carries. We think the carries will certainly go up this season as they break in a new quarterback. And Houk comes into this season as another two-way player to keep an eye on. Defensively, Houk would line up at linebacker for the Yellowjackets and he finished with over 50 tackles and two sacks.

When we look up and down the Fairview roster, it looks like the majority of their overall talent and production will come from the junior class, specifically on offense. But the senior class has some dudes to look out for and it starts with [player_tooltip player_id='1743232' first='[player_tooltip player_id='1229527' first='Colt' last='']' last='Hamen'] at the linebacker position. Hamen is coming off a breakout season during his junior year. He finished last season with 100 tackles and he comes into this season as one of the top returning tacklers from last season. And we looked back at some of our notes we had prior to last season and Hamen was somewhat of an unknown guy to us. So it's easy to say last year was a breakout season for the linebacker.

Junior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1743233' first='Haddon' last='Miller'] is another example of a Yellowjacket that enjoyed a breakout season last year. Just like with Hamen, we didn't know much about Miller coming into the 2024 football season. And just like with Hamen, Miller ended up being a breakout player within the Fairview offense. He finished his sophomore season with 47 catches for over 550 yards and three touchdowns. This season, Miller could very well be the top target in the Fairview passing attack. And as they work in a new quarterback, having a player that has the kind of production that Miller had will certainly help. He'll be a big target in the passing game for Fairview in 2025.

Aug. 29th - Alva
- For the second straight year, Fairview kicks off the regular season against Alva. In the opener last year, Fairview won 35-7 as they beat the Goldbugs for the fourth straight year. Prior to this win streak, they hadn't beaten Alva in decades. Alva is the first of three straight top ten opponents for Fairview.
Sept. 5th - Kingston
- In week one, Fairview hosts Kingston, a team that is ranked #5 in the Class 2A-1 rankings. Last season, these two teams met for the first time and it ended up being an instant classic. Tied at 28 with less than a minute to play, Fairview would score the go-ahead touchdown to win 35-28.
Sept. 12th - AT Tonkawa
- Fairview will wrap up non-district play in week two with another top ten opponent, this time one from their own class. They travel to Tonkawa to face the Buccaneers here. They beat Tonkawa 44-18 last season and it was their first win over the Buccaneers since meeting in non-district play back in 2012.
Sept. 26th - AT Watonga
- District play will kick off with a road trip to Watonga in week four. Fairview met Watonga last year for the first time since 2017. The Yellowjackets would roll to a 69-34 victory. It was their fourth win in the last five meetings. The 69 points scored last year would end up being the season-high.
Oct. 3rd - Merritt
- After back to back road games, Fairview returns home to host Merritt in week five. These two teams have been district foes since 2020 and this series has been dominated by the Yellowjackets. They won 49-16 last season and they've won seven straight in the last decade.
Oct. 10th - AT Crescent
- The second half of the regular season begins with another road trip, this time to face Crescent in week six. The Tigers were a new district opponent for Fairview in 2024. They would win 56-26 last season and they also beat Crescent 19-7 in the 2023 playoffs, on their way to their second straight title.
Oct. 16th - Hooker
- On a Fall Break Thursday night in week seven, Fairview hosts Hooker and there's no doubt that this one has been circled on the calendar for a while. Hooker snapped Fairview's 36-game winning streak last season. But just like Fairview, Hooker will look different with a new head coach and plenty of new faces on the field.
Oct. 24th - Hinton
- In week eight, Fairview will have their final home game of the regular season when they host Hinton. The Yellowjackets met Hinton for the first time last season as they were another new district opponent on the schedule for the Yellowjackets. Fairview had no problems, rolling to a 40-6 victory.
Oct. 31st - AT Sayre
- Fairview hits the road to face Sayre on a Halloween Friday night in week nine. These two teams have met every year in district play since 2020. The Yellowjackets have dominated this series. They beat Sayre 49-24 last season and each of the last five wins since 2020 have been by 20+ points.
Nov. 7th - AT Cashion
- Cashion was a new district opponent on Fairview's schedule in 2024 and it was their first meeting since the 2018 playoffs. The Yellowjackets beat Cashion 63-18 for their largest margin of victory in 2024. 2024's match-up was a unique one featuring the previous four state champs in Class A.

NOTABLE

There is no denying that right now is the best era of Fairview football in program history. They captured back to back state championships in 2022 and 2023 and had a 36-game winning streak. What's crazy is how quickly things turned around for Fairview. Obviously the players in the last few senior classes had a lot to do with it. When you have some guys who end up getting an opportunity to play college football, it's going to put you in a solid position on Friday nights. But following the 2020 season, Fairview had gone 35-36 in head coach Robert Bernard's first six seasons as head coach. They had made playoff appearances but didn't have much success. However, in the four seasons from 2021-2024, Fairview would go 50-3. You can count on one hand the amount of programs across the state that have more wins during that same timespan. So not only is this the best era for Fairview football but it's also clear that the senior class that just graduated was the most successful one in school history. They have laid the foundation for what's expected for the next classes coming up and it will be fun to watch their story.
