Throughout the month of July and even into August, we are publishing well over 100 of the most in-depth team previews that you'll find anywhere to get you completely ready for the 2025 football season. This is something that began for us at PRZ-Oklahoma in 2021 and it continues to get bigger and better every single year. We're looking forward to diving deep into the top teams across the state in every class. From defending champions, to the top contenders and plenty of dark horses and other teams to know, we'll have complete coverage every single day. There will be multiple previews dropping every single day! In this post, we take a look at the reigning Class 4A state champion Elgin Owls!

Elgin Owls

Preseason Prep Redzone Ranking: #1 In Class 4A

Head Coach: Chalmer Wyatt - 7th Season - 41-23 Record At Elgin

2024 RESULTS (14-0 Record - Class 4A State Champions)

Aug. 29th - Beat Lawton MacArthur 28-7
Sept. 6th - Beat Dallas Hillcrest, TX. 58-0
Sept. 20th - Beat Newcastle 56-14
Sept. 27th - Beat Woodward 63-0
Oct. 4th - Beat Elk City 49-6
Oct. 11th - Beat Bridge Creek 44-0
Oct. 17th - Beat Weatherford 56-14
Oct. 25th - Beat Douglass 58-0
Nov. 1st - Beat Clinton 42-7
Nov. 8th - Beat Cache 48-0
1st Round - Beat Ardmore 43-0
Quarterfinals - Beat Sallisaw 49-6
Semifinals - Beat Wagoner 33-10
Championship - Beat Tuttle 29-22

2024 Offensive Scoring Average: 47.4 Points Per Game
2024 Defensive Scoring Average: 7.8 Points Per Game

The Elgin Owls came into the 2024 football season as the preseason number one team in our Class 4A rankings. After dropping down to 4A following the emergency redistricting shuffle in April, they immediately became our team to beat in a very top-heavy Class 4A. And the Owls certainly lived up to the preseason hype. They opened with a dominant road win over Lawton MacArthur and that was just the start of their regular season dominance. Elgin would not be tested all year until the semifinal round. They would run away with the district championship. They wrapped up the regular season with a 10-0 record, with the closest win coming in that season opener against Lawton Mac, where they won by 21 points. In the playoffs, the Owls would continue their dominant play in the first two rounds. Elgin would punch their ticket to the semifinals for the first time in program history. That history didn't stop as they would beat perennial powerhouse Wagoner 33-10 to punch their ticket to the state title game. Waiting for them was Tuttle in a championship game featuring unbeaten teams and two teams that felt like they were circling each other all year. The Owls would win a 29-22 championship classic to capture their first state championship in school history. Behind a dominant offensive line, a workhorse at running back, a master at quarterback and a relentless defense, the Owls completed the perfect season. They lived up to the hype of being the team to beat coming into the season and finished it off with the gold ball. After chasing it, they now have to defend it.

2025 OUTLOOK

Now that Elgin has finally climbed the mountain and captured the state championship, they've shifted their focus on defending that title. And defending it will feel like chasing it because this Elgin team will have new starters everywhere on both sides of the ball. Six starters are back on the offensive side of the ball. The offense will benefit from having one of the best running backs in the state returning in the backfield. However, he's going to have a somewhat new offensive line paving the way. As we mentioned earlier, the Elgin offensive line was dominant and they'll have to replace multiple D1 signees up front. But having a guy that's not scared to carry the ball 30-40 times a game if necessary will give them a boost. They'll look new at the quarterback position after replacing a three-year starter but they'll replace him with someone who's been waiting in the wings for his opportunity. All in all, this offense is still going to be a unit that can light up the scoreboard. They'll just need to bring those new faces along to have success. Defensively, the Owls also bring back six starters. And to be honest, the offense got most of the headlines from last season so this was a unit that flew under the radar, despite just giving up around a touchdown per game. This season, we could certainly see them take a very positive step towards dominating opposing teams. The schedule will bring challenges early on against ranked 5A programs, but it should set them up for success in district play. And similar to what we saw last season, the Owls are going to be heavy favorites in the district. That should set them up for another lengthy playoff run and an opportunity to defend that state championship.

KEY LOSSES TO GRADUATION

Antoni Kade Ogumoro - Offensive Lineman (Signed With Tennessee - All State 1st Team Selection)
Jace Williams - Offensive Lineman (Signed With Navy - All State 2nd Team Selection)
Tres Lorah - Quarterback (Signed With NOC Tonkawa - Player Of The Year Finalist)

PLAYERS TO WATCH

The Owls are going to be breaking in a new quarterback in 2025 and one way that transition can be made easy is having reliable weapons at the wide receiver position. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1701962' first='Brody' last='Morrison'] will return for his senior season this fall and he's coming off a 2024 campaign, where he was incredibly productive and looking back, somewhat under the radar. Morrison would finish the year with 11 touchdowns receiving and became arguably one of the top weapons in the passing game last fall. Now, Elgin had the benefit of having a terrific rushing attack in 2024 but we anticipate them being significantly more balanced this season and Morrison could benefit from that.

Elgin had the benefit of having a three-year starter at the quarterback position last fall and now they have to replace him. But like we mentioned earlier, they have a guy that's been just waiting for his opportunity to become QB1 and there's a chance that the Owls don't miss a step with him lining up under center. Junior [player_tooltip player_id='1680012' first='Cayden' last='Belletto'] will be going into his first season at quarterback and a lot will be put on his shoulders and they are big shoes to fill after what we've seen from their offense over the last few years. But Belletto really impressed us when we got a chance to watch him in the spring. He had full control of the offense and didn't look like a QB that was going into his first season as a starter.

We mentioned it a few times already but the offensive line is the biggest area to circle for Elgin coming into this season. How do you replace the absolute monsters that you had in 2024? Well you don't do it with any one guy but junior [player_tooltip player_id='1701966' first='Hudson' last='Begley'] is a guy that Elgin's coaches are excited about coming into this season. Begley is going to be one of the top guys for Elgin on the line of scrimmage and those expectations from the coaches are good enough for us to spotlight him going into 2025. The Owls were dominant last season up front. Begley and the rest of the Elgin offensive line don't have to worry about living up to those expectations but to get the job done.

At this time last year, we were talking about running back [player_tooltip player_id='472321' first='Ritson' last='Meyer'] as a player that was going to have a breakout season. And he certainly lived up to all the preseason hype. Meyer would score 34 total touchdowns on the season and was an absolute workhorse at the running back position. In fact, the last time he was on the field, Meyer was carrying the ball over 40 times in the state championship game. Absolute workhorse. And it wouldn't be surprising to see his production even go up this season. Meyer earned All State 2nd Team honors last season and he will go into this year as one of the best running backs in the state. He's definitely the top back in Class 4A.

(2024 All State 2nd Team Selection)

Similar to Belletto, junior [player_tooltip player_id='1680013' first='Tucker' last='New'] was a player that we didn't know much about but then he really impressed us during a team camp this spring. New first stood out on the offensive side of the ball and then he turned around and did the same thing on defense. New is a big receiver that's going to give the Owls a threat down the field and a mismatch against almost every defensive back he goes against because of his size. Defensively, New is a terror to deal with coming off the edge. The Owls have a few of those players to keep an eye on this season that play the game in a similar fashion. New is going to be a player to watch and could enjoy a breakout season.

MORE NAMES TO KNOW

Braxten Antuna - 2027 Running Back/Linebacker
Brice Martin - 2026 Running Back/Defensive Back
CJ Devine - 2026 Athlete
[player_tooltip player_id='1680014' first='Dalvin' last='Clark'] - 2027 Running Back
Kason Meyer - 2027 Wide Receiver/Linebacker
[player_tooltip player_id='1680015' first='Lucas' last='Young'] - 2026 Wide Receiver
Phillip Pebeahsy - 2026 Tight End/Defensive End

2025 SCHEDULE

Aug. 29th - Lawton MacArthur
- For the second straight year, Elgin's regular season will begin with a match-up against nearby Lawton MacArthur. Last season, the Owls would run away with a 28-7 victory on the road to kick off their title season. It was at that point that they hammered home just how real they were as a contender.
Sept. 5th - AT Dallas Hillcrest, TX.
- The Owls will fly south to Texas for their second game of the season. Last year, they played Dallas Hillcrest for the first time in school history and it worked out well for Elgin. They would win 58-0 and that was another big win during their dominant start to what was a championship season.
Sept. 19th - AT Newcastle
- The non-district schedule will wrap up in week three with a road game against Newcastle. The Racers are coming off a run to the 5A semifinals. Elgin beat Newcastle 56-14 last season. This has been a back and forth series over the last decade. They were district foes from 2014-2021.
Sept. 26th - Woodward
- After two straight games away from home, Elgin will return home to open up the district slate in week four against Woodward. The Owls would shut out the Boomers 63-0 last season. Prior to that, these teams hadn't met since 2015. They were district opponents from 2010-2015.
Oct. 3rd - AT Elk City
- In week five, the Owls will go on the road to square off with Elk City. Elgin won this match-up 49-6 last season. Prior to that, they met every year from 2010-2021 as district opponents. After Elgin dropped down to 4A, they became district opponents again. Elk City has a 7-5 edge over Elgin since 2010.
Oct. 10th - Bridge Creek
- Elgin will host Bridge Creek in week six. The Owls had another shut out victory in this match-up a year ago. They beat the Bobcats 44-0 last season. Prior to last year's meeting, they hadn't played Bridge Creek since 2011. Elgin has a 3-0 advantage in this series over the last 20 years.
Oct. 16th - AT Weatherford
- The Owls will hit the road for a district showdown with Weatherford. Whether it's been in non-district or district action, Elgin has had Weatherford's number in the last four years. They won 56-14 last season and have won four straight in the series. These teams routinely play whether they're in the same district or not.
Oct. 24th - Douglass
- In week eight, Elgin will host Douglass and this is another match-up that heavily favors the Owls as we look at it on paper in July. Elgin beat the Trojans 58-0 last season. Before that, these two teams hadn't met since the 2013 playoffs, which Douglass won 63-28.
Oct. 31st - AT Clinton
- The Owls will head to Clinton in week nine and this match-up could end up deciding the district championship. This series has been completely one-sided, in favor of Clinton. Elgin won 42-7 last season but that victory also snapped a four-game losing streak and was just their second win over Clinton in 20 years.
Nov. 7th - Cache
- The regular season comes to an end with a home game against Cache. Elgin has had their number since 2021. The Owls have won four straight in the series and all four wins have been by more than 20 points, including last year's emphatic 48-0 victory over the Bulldogs.

NOTABLE

In April of last year, a court decision would actually completely change the landscape of Oklahoma high school football in 2024. Elgin was originally supposed to spend at least two more years in Class 5A but that court ruling would force an emergency redistricting shuffle and almost every class was impacted quite a bit. Elgin dropped down to Class 4A and in our opinion, they immediately became the team to beat. Would they have been able to push Carl Albert in Class 5A? We'll never know and that's always going to be one of the “what if” questions from the 2024 season. Elgin was actually one of three teams that changed classes during that emergency district reshuffle and would go on to win the state championship. Lincoln Christian went from 4A to winning it all in 3A and Rejoice Christian went from 2A-2 to winning it all in A-1. The Owls came into the 2024 season expecting to contend for the state championship but they were also a program that had never been there before. They had never made it out of the quarterfinal round. You can't say that anymore. Now, the Owls go into the 2025 football season as one of the teams to beat once again and once again they expect to be playing for a title in December.

LAST FIVE SEASONS

2024 - 14-0 - Class 4A State Champions
2023 - 11-1 - Lost In Class 5A Quarterfinals
2022 - 8-3 - Lost In Class 5A 1st Round
2021 - 4-6 - Missed Playoffs
2020 - 0-8 - Lost In Class 4A 1st Round

CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY

1 State Championship

2024 - Beat Tuttle 29-22
