On Tuesday, June 3, 2025 I was personally invited back for the third consecutive year by Fairleigh Dickinson University Head Football Coach Anthony Van Curen to cover his Football Mega Camp. With many other universities now following suit with mega camps of their own, Van Curen's is the O.G. in the area and, quite frankly, everyone is just biting off his style. However, at this point the term “mega” is probably an understatement to describe his event.

In what I would consider more of a celebration of the game, between the 560+ prospects registered, 100+ college coaches watching, clinicians, parents, and high school staffs there were literally around 1000 people coming out to compete, make connections, and enjoy an evening sample taste of football. As has become the norm for Van Curen's baby, the event was organized, structured, ran well, and was highly competitive.

In addition to eyeing prospects up, measuring their combine performances (40-yard dash, Pro Agility, Broad Jump), I was fortunate enough to receive unimpeded access to the grounds to evaluate and scout the talent on hand. In this article, I share my notes for the position group mentioned in its title.

Be sure to follow me on Twitter for the latest updates in New Jersey high school football.

If there was one thing [player_tooltip player_id='1703267' first='Tyler' last='Montgomery'] did extremely well, it was adjust, re-adjust, and convert on those adjustments. The St. Thomas Aquinas prospect showed that he has zero problem adjusting multiple to the trajectory and flight of the ball if he and his quarterback are not on the same page. What allows this 2026 graduate to convert so many opportunities was his tendency to catch mostly with his hands. Additionally, his solid feet allow him to shimmy his way off the line, gaining clean releases from lesser defenders... Speaking of releases, Jamil Secka had a good one too. Hailing from the other side of the pond from the United Kingdom by way of the NFL Academy, Secka was able to consistent gain and win off of the line with an wicked inside release.

There might not have been a bigger physical presence at receiver than Rahway's [player_tooltip player_id='1695327' first='Synceir' last='Toussaint']. Toussaint was a very big and tall receiver - almost the build of one of those converted basketball small forwards who now play tight end-types. Using his size to his advantage, Toussaint is able to out-muscle matchups and come up with the ball on under thrown passes after fighting through contact. At his best, I thought the rising senior extended his arms to attack the ball while it was in mid air. based on the way he ran routes and moved, perhaps tight end is in his future. There is no doubt, however, that he has strong hands, uses them to catch, and can make adjustments. One thing I wish to immediately see is for him to use his strides to his advantage. Toussaint tried to vary releases, most notably relying on a stutter step at the line, to try to be press. With his length, I hoped to have see him attack the defender with long strides directly at him, putting the pressure on... Another 2026 graduate who had really good ball skills was [player_tooltip player_id='505387' first='Zaire' last='Spellman']. Out of Connecticut's St. Thomas More, Spellman was truly outstanding at high pointing the ball. Additionally, he showcased strong situational awareness, toe-tapping the sideline on more than one occassion.

On the low, Colonia has put forth some quality receivers in recent years, as [player_tooltip player_id='1703268' first='Rynal' last='Wortman'] looks to continue this legacy. Wortman was really strong putting on the breaks, making hard cuts when breaking his route's stem. A subtle nuance I liked about Wortman was that when running a dig, he swam over his opponent in order to get inside and across their face. As was the case with Toussaint, Wortman also seemed to have a proclivity for stop-and-go stutter-type moves near the line to create space - too much for my liking; however, and much to his credit, Wortman managed to turn his defender's hips when doing this and was quick enough to capitalize on their late flip. In closing, Wortman was perhaps faster than I initially thought and is definitely a product that I want to see game film on before dropping a final verdict... Last but not least was Immaculata's [player_tooltip player_id='1703270' first='Damian' last='Mack']. Mack, also a rising senior, registered as a wide receiver for this event, but as per my notes took a spin or two at defensive back. The one rep that I caught of him screamed "return of the Mack." Initially I thought he was beat as there was a bit too much separation between him and the receiver, yet Mack managed to close that space and recovery for an easy pass break up.

AVC Football Mega Camp Coverage

Eye Test: Defensive Prospects
Eye Test: Offensive Prospects
Top Combine Scores: Offense
Top Combine Scores: Defense + Specialists
Noteworthy Cornerbacks
Noteworthy Defensive Ends
Noteworthy Linebackers
Noteworthy Offensive Tackles
Noteworthy Quarterbacks
Noteworthy Wide Receivers
