On Tuesday, June 3, 2025 I was personally invited back for the third consecutive year by Fairleigh Dickinson University Head Football Coach Anthony Van Curen to cover his Football Mega Camp. With many other universities now following suit with mega camps of their own, Van Curen's is the O.G. in the area and, quite frankly, everyone is just biting off his style. However, at this point the term “mega” is probably an understatement to describe his event.

In what I would consider more of a celebration of the game, between the 560+ prospects registered, 100+ college coaches watching, clinicians, parents, and high school staffs there were literally around 1000 people coming out to compete, make connections, and enjoy an evening sample taste of football. As has become the norm for Van Curen's baby, the event was organized, structured, ran well, and was highly competitive.

In addition to eyeing prospects up, measuring their combine performances (40-yard dash, Pro Agility, Broad Jump), I was fortunate enough to receive unimpeded access to the grounds to evaluate and scout the talent on hand. In this article, I share my notes for the position group mentioned in its title.

Sometimes things are simply as clear as day. In my humble opinion, [player_tooltip player_id='934015' first='Arique' last='Fleming'] was the best quarterback in attendance. Already approximately 6'3", roughly 220lbs, and with two full varsity seasons under his belt, Fleming enters his junior season with all the physical tools and returns as the Minutemen's incumbent leading rusher. Fleming threw an absolutely effortless deep ball. Not lost on these throws, however, was a soft touch to place the ball over defenders and in safe locations where only his paired receivers could play it. Aside from the deep ball, the 2027 graduate gets a tremendous amount of velocity on his throws, as evidenced by the complete darts he threw on far-sideline comebacks. Lastly, perhaps the most impressive throw that Fleming made was on an out-and-up.

From a prospect many are expecting big things from to one that has been to the promise land before, [player_tooltip player_id='855779' first='Xavien' last='Rodriguez'] looks as though he might bring an added element to Union City's vaunted Wing-T attack. Rodriguez showed a strong sense of anticipation when throwing out routes, getting the ball out early and ahead of his receiver's break. Mechanically he proved sound, delivering the ball off of his plant foot. A lot this rising senior's tape showed fade balls, and after having the opportunity to see him live, boy does Rodriguez throw an outstanding one at that. Rodriguez delivers the ball in a lead position and right into the bread basket of his target for easy scores.

As Trenton Central prepares for this fall, they must look to replace their do-it-all at quarterback Keyshawn Warthen and it appears that Keith Williams gets the first crack under center. Williams really got some distance on the deep ball, airing it out and trusting his targets to win deep. That said, I suspect that Williams ran it back with the same receiver a few times - a camp strategy that allows both quarterback and receiver to look good, and steal extra reps if they are teammates.

There were several 2028 prospects who came out and got camp work in... Lakeland Regional's [player_tooltip player_id='1703697' first='Hunter' last='Struble'] was a prospect who had fluid mechanics - especially impressive for a prospect his age. Aside from his release, Struble looked smooth and transferred his weight on his throws as if I was watching a flip book. This translated to a extremely catchable ball for his targets... As [player_tooltip player_id='1703699' first='Nate' last='Kimkowski'] prepares for his first season on the varsity roster, I wish to see his upper body mechanics improve some. Kimkowski's release was a bit wonky. AS long as he keeps with it, takes coaching, and watches his film there is no reason that this prospect out of Vernon should clean this up... Paramus Catholic's quarterback of the future, [player_tooltip player_id='1703698' first='Rowan' last='Martin'], was one who was apt at throwing the deep bomb. A bit of a lanky lefty, I want to see Martin's shoulders stay square when he drops back. Additionally, hit would go a long way for his velocity and accuracy should he activate his lower half mechanics a bit more, as it currently seems as though the rising sophomore gets all of his arm/shoulder on his throws.
