2028 Rankings Update: Defensive Backs On The Rise

<p class="text-gray-700">Hicks is coming off a very nice Freshman season for Mission Viejo and is well on his way to becoming a national recruit. He is very technically sound in man coverage, fluid in transition with tremendous ball skills and a quick trigger when making plays on the ball. He has disciplined eyes, knows when to break-off in zone coverage and has elite length and size for the P4 level. He is a very fluid and athletic prospect with natural ball skills, elite downfield speed and can play either on the outside or in the slot while not afraid to get in the mix in the run game. He has a very physical play-style and shows a quick trigger, tackling abilities in the open field and flashes he can get off blocks on the perimeter and consistently make plays behind the line. He has elite length and size for the safety position with still room to grow and develop and is a no-brainer P4 caliber player with good upside. He is a very strong and physical tackler that has good range in the back end, recovery length and speed and plays physical in the box/is violent at the POA. Checking into our rankings update just outside the top 100, he is one of the top returning defenders across the SJS and is poised for a huge 2025 season. He is a true downhill thumper that can play SS/OLB and is a solid run defender that gets downhill quickly, takes proper angles to track down ball carriers near the LOS from the third level and packs a punch at the POA.
