Top Performers From The Black Sheep QB Showcase

It was a hot day in Cincinnati even though it was the late morning hours. That didn't faze the 30 plus quarterbacks who made their way to LaSalle high school to show off their skills and put in the work to get better. Quarterbacks from all over Cincinnati and extended areas came out. After working on making throws versus different coverages all day, they competed in a long throw contest and an accuracy contest. After that, they picked a top five. The top 5 would then go onto lead 2 minute drives versus a shell defense. Let's take a look at some of the players who had big days.    While, Hunter was one of the younger quarterbacks in attendance, that didn't stop him from showing off high end traits that would lead him to the showcase MVP. He showed the ability to drive the ball and spin as well. He was on point with his throws all day long. What really shocked me was when he decided to call his own plays in the final drive portion of the showcase. He then called a great drive and executed it for a touchdown. Really impressive for a young man who hasn't even stepped foot into high school. McLaughlin has a very bright future.     Wallace was a young man that I highlighted in an article last season. What I saw checked versus everything I saw from his high school film. Braeden has a compact throwing motion and a quick release. He knows what he wants to do with the ball and is decisive in his throws. He can make throws to all three levels while driving the ball and making the touch throws. Braeden was one of the top performers in the accuracy contest.     Clore easily had the biggest arm of those in attendance. He won the long throw with a heave of 70 yards in the air. He produces a high spin rate on his throws. He easily drove the ball into smaller windows on some of the harder routes in the route tree. He also shows the ability to throw from different arm angles.     The first thing you notice about Joseph is he's a sturdily build guy. He throws with a 3/4 arm slot. Ward has a live arm and creates easy velocity. He showed good accuracy on the day. Joseph also shows off the footwork and athleticism to make plays with his feet when the throws aren't there.     Gavin showed the profile of being a good dual threat type of Quarterback. He was able to easily work the short and intermediate game with his accuracy and ball placement. He showed good footwork and athleticism on the pass rush and footwork drills    Here are a couple of other Quarterbacks who were not part of the top 5 but definitely impressed me.    Meltebrink was easily right there with the quarterbacks who placed in the top five. He has a good build to hold up to the physicality of the college game. Steven was on point with his throws all day. I loved his competitive attitude. I'm excited to see what he can put on film this fall.     I thought Barnes had a strong performance on the day. He showed good footwork and athleticism in the movement drills. Lauris throws a nice ball. I see a lot of untapped potential in his arm when it comes to creating additional velocity and spin.
