Although we may not have a ton of film on Omaha Westside's [player_tooltip player_id='1581454' first='Justin' last='Parish Jr'], the upside he showed at our PRZ showcase earlier this offseason is hard to overlook. He immediately stands out with elite next-level size at 6'5", 280 pounds, with great length to his frame. For his size, Justin moves surprisingly well, thanks to quick feet and great lateral mobility. He has the power in his lower body to stone-wall defenders when engaged and can use his upper body to upend them, finishing the block in the dirt. Parish has a background in wrestling, which you can see translate over to the gridiron with his effective use of leverage. Look for Parish to push for a starting role as the Warriors lost some players on the OL to graduation.

Although Creighton Prep's [player_tooltip player_id='1590726' first='Gavin' last='Trapp'] only played a limited varsity role as a freshman, he showed several flashes of the type of game wrecker he can be. Gavin demonstrated that he can be a destructive defensive tackle, capable of shutting down inside run lanes and collapsing the interior of the pocket against the pass. Gavin plays to his advantages very well, utilizing his natural leverage to maintain a low pad level and get under his opponent's pads, thereby standing them up in their stance. Trapp can generate a ton of power from his base to drive blockers off the line. Gavin's lateral mobility allows him to shift and attack different gaps at the line of scrimmage, forcing linemen to make quick adjustments. Violent hands at the point of attack. The Jr. Jays are cooking with their talented defensive duo.

As if the North backfield wasn't tough enough, now you have rising sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1590688' first='Michael' last='Valencia Jr'] to take the load off of starter Cannon and keep defenses gassed. Valencia had a strong showing playing for the Monarchs last season, rushing for 368 yards and four rushing touchdowns on 79 carries. Michael is a tough runner with a strong base who showed off his top-tier balance as he absorbed contact and managed to stay upright. Michael's physicality also makes him very tough to bring down on first contact, as he'll likely try to dish out some punishment of his own. Valencia flashed a great burst of speed as he hit his gaps and has the agility to make sharp cuts when he finds cutback lanes. Great acceleration to break away from defenses. Michael also proved to be an asset in pass protection as he didn't shy away from picking up blitzing LBs in the backfield. Coming from a school known for good RB play, Valencia could be the next one up!

Here's the second part of the Creighton Prep "duo" I was talking about. Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1581447' first='Cooper' last='Fix'] was another impressive Jr Jay who should see a bigger role in the defensive rotation this fall. Most of Cooper's tape was from the freshman level (JV?), but even then, he seemed to be operating at a different speed than anyone else on the field. Cooper projects best as an OLB/DE who can use his lightning-quick first step and bend to dominate coming off the edge. Fix was able to win his reps with both speed moves and power rushing. Once Cooper breaks into the backfield, he is tireless in his pursuit and does a great job closing on the ball, resulting in several sacks and TFLs. With Trapp and Fix in the mix for the next few seasons, it's going to be tough moving the ball against this Prep defensive line.

GICC has a great core of young talent to watch for in the upcoming seasons, including budding two-way starter [player_tooltip player_id='1652202' first='Owen' last='Price'], who flashed his potential at receiver and outside linebacker. Overall, I was impressed with the versatility Owen showed as an outside linebacker, as he was able to play in space, rush the passer, and contain the edge against the run. He is sharp when reading his keys and flows to the ball very well, knowing exactly when to drop into coverage or start working his way downhill. Owen showed the strength and hand-fighting ability to disengage from blocks and even had some impressive reps where he converted his speed to power when taking on linemen at the LOS. Owen does a good job of recognizing route concepts and is quick to pick up receivers coming across his assigned zone. He is a great motor when pursuing the ball, and is a fairly secure tackler when he gets to his spot. Expect another big season on defense from Owen, but also keep an eye on his offensive role this fall!
