Prospect Re-evaluations: Episode 1

Welcome to a new series on Prep Redzone North Carolina, one I'm quite excited to get started. This idea started after running several <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2025/05/community-film-room-episode-5-2/">community film room</a> pieces. Those are typically reserved for initial evaluations of players outside of our rankings, but there are plenty of great players already ranked who haven't had a recent evaluation. What about them?   Welcome to the first installment of prospect re-evaluations! Here, I'm taking players who already sit in the rankings, but haven't had a recent evaluation. Using our evaluation block tool, I'm giving these five players new evaluations that will live on their profile pages, accessible by our college and high school subscribers alike. Here, we have a versatile lineman and several receivers to break down.    Melvin has always been a fun evaluation. He has the speed of an off-ball linebacker and the power of an interior defensive lineman, but doesn't have prototypical length or height for the edge position at the college level. So, his upside will be determined by the type of role a college coach and carve out for him. I like him best as a sort of "bandit" linebacker-edge hybrid, but as a high school pass-rusher, he'll beat anybody on any day, at any position. He's a fun guy to watch and we think he could end up as a top recruit     Parker is continuing the trend of both, physical receivers who also play edge rusher at Forest Hills. It's an oddly specific model that has worked well in the past and the Yellow Jackets may have another potential star on their hands. He doesn't have a ton of film, but he's a two-sport athlete whose basketball skills transfer to the gridiron. I love his size and speed, and his athletic profile gives him a high ceiling.     In a class lacking polished route-runners, Jenkins stands out as a productive and technical receiver. He scares defenders with his speed, but does a lot of his damage on comebacks and curls as he can get in and out of his breaks quickly. While I currently have a D2 grade on him, the lack of true technical receivers in this class could have him punching above his weight on the recruiting trail and there's still plenty of time for the slender Jenkins to bulk up a bit and continue to improve.     Beasley is a key player on American Leadership Academy's young team. He's used more down the field as a guy who has some ball skills and the ability to get up and make plays at the catch point. He's still developing, but I like the early returns and think he should take another step forward as a versatile playmaker in 2025.     Hicks has positional versatility, as he can play multiple spots on the offense. He's best used as a shifty gadget guy, racking up yards after the catch on screens and jet sweeps. That's where his running back skillset comes in, as he gets downhill in a hurry and picks up positive yardage on a consistent basis.
