The 2028 running back class is shaping up to be an excellent group. As we make our way through the 2028 class rankings update pieces, we like to break the position groups up in a way that makes sense. Accordingly, I'm hitting it all in this special RBs piece.

What do you need to know about the 2028 running back class? Here, we're looking at RB stock-risers, new to the rankings, and watchlist to rankings risers, all in one place.

Stock-risers are the bread and butter of what we do with rankings updates. Just because we only have a few in this update doesn't mean we don't like the class. With plenty of new players, several guys we really like ticked down a spot or two. Still, there were a few who defied odds and moved up the rankings.

I'm all aboard the McPhatter hype train, as I think his elite athleticism will translate. Despite being undersized, he's electric in the open field and explosive in limited space, two traits that are obvious on film. Even at 5'10", he can dunk (rather easily) and is a standout on the basketball court. He clearly possesses the ability to play at the college level, the only question is whether that will be in football or basketball.

After playing just one game at the junior varsity level (and running for over 80 yards on just four carries) Brinton came up to the varsity level where he was Asheboro's leading rusher. Brinton has excellent speed and shiftiness and isn't afraid of contact. There's plenty of room for him to grow and he should get more dangerous as he puts on more weight.

We originally had Troy on the watchlist as we awaited more varsity film, but he impressed us enough this spring at the CFI Showcase to move into the rankings before the season starts. A two-way player, Troy has excellent size and has the athleticism to become one of the best backs in the state as he gets older.

We haven't had a ton of players in our rankings out of Carson High School, but we love Broussard's upside. While playing multiple offensive positions, including quarterback and running back, Broussard put up promising numbers, averaging over five yards a carry and catching a few passes out of the backfield as well. A two-way player, he's also flashed as a defensive back in the 7-on-7 circuit thus offseason.

After putting up great numbers at Christ the King, Decker is transferring to Ambassador Christian and we love his size and speed profile. He wasn't exactly a home run threat last season, but he was excellent at grinding out tough yards and breaking tackles. He is still adjusting to playing running back at his size and as his pad level improves, he's going to get even better.

Tew hit our radar after the Carolina Coaches' Combine, as he put up solid numbers for a freshman running back there. He checked in at over 6'1" and around 175 pounds, running a sub-4.8 40 and putting up an excellent 31-inch vertical. On the field, he had a bigger impact at safety as a freshman, but we think he's a future running back and have him placed as such in our system.
