In the month of June, we always give our rankings a fresh update and add more players to each class. We kicked off our ranking update series with the 2028 class. In case you missed it, we released the 2028 Top 50 earlier this week. These prospects just finished up their freshman seasons and there are quite a few that have already made names for themselves. In this breakdown, we're taking a look at the quarterback position. There are a handful of signal callers that have already had an impact at the varsity level. But for these five prospects, we could end up seeing them enjoy that breakout season sooner rather than later. Keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma for more 2028 prospect breakdowns and more ranking updates each week!

Jenks quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='485894' first='Maddox' last='Young'] has been on our radar for a while now. He moved back to Jenks a little over a year ago and he's in the middle of a very competitive battle for the QB1 job with the Trojans. Whoever wins this job is going to have a big 2025 campaign when you look at the star power that the Trojans will have on the offensive side of the ball. And when it comes to Young, he brings the ability of making just about every throw in the book. We've watched Young at countless 7v7 tournaments as well as camp settings so we've seen him throw the ball quite a bit over the last 18 months. And we haven't seen very many throws that Young hasn't been able to make. The fastball is really good but he has also developed that touch that you need to fit the ball into some tight windows. That's been the most impressive thing about Young. His development with making those tough throws and make them look easy.

Norman North quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1522514' first='Nash' last='Henry'] was another example of a 2028 quarterback that had some hype around his name coming into the 2024 season but he was also behind a multiple-year starter on the depth chart. And when you look at Norman North over the last decade, this program knows what they're doing at the quarterback position and we could end up seeing Henry being the next breakout player for the Timberwolves at the quarterback position. When we had an opportunity to see Henry during the spring, he certainly lived up to the hype and passed the eye test. Now, the Timberwolves have another quarterback battling with Henry but right now, it looks like it's going to be the soon-to-be sophomore when they open the season this fall. He's another example of a quarterback that just has advanced arm talent and checks every box when you watch him throw.

Stillwater quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1173979' first='Satank' last='Taptto'] has been a prospect that Pioneer coaches have been excited about for a while now. We first saw Taptto stand out at a 7v7 tournament and he was playing wide receiver. It was clear then that he's a terrific athlete and then we got a chance to watch him play quarterback this spring. The Pioneers need a new quarterback after losing their starter from a year ago to graduation. Taptto appears to be the guy that will be taking the field this fall. And when we watched Taptto in the spring, we were very impressed. First off, it looks like he's grown a few inches and we already knew that he checks the athletic box. But we watched him exclusively go to work in the pocket and make throws all over the field. Now, it's no secret that Stillwater has one of the best receiver groups in the state. But this could be a monster breakout season for Taptto when they take the field this fall.

Metro Christian is on the shortlist of programs that develop quarterbacks at an incredibly high level. The Patriots already have their QB1 for this season but here's a quarterback to remember for 2026 and beyond. [player_tooltip player_id='1689516' first='Laken' last='Lee'] will be Metro Christian's back up this season but he really impressed us when we caught the Patriots this spring. If Metro Christian didn't have numbers on their jerseys, you could be talked into Lee actually being the Metro Christian starter and not the backup. There was no drop off when we were watching the Patriots go against various defenses when Lee came into the game. And maybe that shouldn't be a surprise when you consider the fact that Metro is one of the true quarterback factories in Oklahoma. We might not see Lee this season unless something goes wrong or if it's in garbage time but he's definitely gotten our attention and will be a name to watch moving forward.

Our final quarterback is Deer Creek's [player_tooltip player_id='1154013' first='J' last='Dax Chancey'] and he's similar to Young, where he's in the middle of a battle for the starting job. Chancey is a quarterback prospect that first got on our radar when he was still in middle school. He immediately caught our attention at one of our PRZ-Next camps but Deer Creek had a pretty good quarterback (now at Georgia Tech) so playing meaningful snaps as a freshman was going to be out of the question. We would then get a chance to see Chancey again back in the spring and he really impressed. Like when we saw him at the PRZ-Next event, Chancey would immediately pass the eye test. Then you watch him throw the ball and the arm strength is absolutely off the charts. So it's also not a surprise that Chancey is also a very good baseball prospect. If Chancey ends up winning the job, he'll have a big 2025 season with the weapons that Deer Creek brings back.
