The summer going into your junior season is often a big one for prospects, as college teams are starting to set their big boards for the incoming junior class and begin to reach out to players. To help the coaches get a head start on the 2027 class, I wanted to highlight a few players who I think are poised to break out in 2025 and could become hot prospects by the time their junior campaign concludes.

Here are five 2027s that are primed to rise this season:

This 2027 OL group is loaded with high-upside prospects who project well to the next level, including the Monarch's [player_tooltip player_id='1547254' first='Bryce' last='Vigness']. Entering his junior season, Bryce already displays a polished game from a technical standpoint, with good footwork, bend, and effective hand usage. Vigness is quick to fire out of his stance and is very aggressive at the point of attack with heavy, powerful hands that stay ready to punch at his opponent. When jabbing at his opponent, Bryce does a good job with his hand placement and knows how to win the inside leverage battle, which he can then use the power in his hips to upend his opponent and finish the block in the dirt. Powerful base allows him to drive defenders off the ball at will, and can help him anchor down to stonewall pass rushers. Good lateral mobility allows him to slide and pull with ease, and he showed that he can climb up to the second level to seal off defenders. I wouldn't be surprised to see Bryce sitting on a few offers by the end of his junior campaign.

Junior [player_tooltip player_id='1085095' first='Brockston' last='Teply'] had another solid season as QB1 for the Silver Hawks and will now be leading the Waverly Vikings offense this fall. In his sophomore campaign, Teply threw for 1,434 yards and 12 passing touchdowns while completing 63.7% of his passes. Brockston stands out immediately with prototypical size at 6'4" and 205 pounds, with room to continue filling out his frame. He's very mobile in the pocket and showed the elusiveness to weave through pressure and avoid big sacks while keeping his eyes downfield looking for open targets. Brockston impressed with his arm strength, showing that he can put good zip on the ball and fit his passes into tight windows. Quick release with a smooth throwing motion. Brockston also does a good job throwing with anticipation and putting the ball in a spot where only his receiver will get it. The football IQ and measurables are there; now it's just a matter of tying everything together in these upcoming two seasons.

Creighton Prep's [player_tooltip player_id='1085149' first='Ayron' last='Shaw'] played sparingly on the varsity DL rotation last season, but seems primed to erupt for a big year in 2025. Shaw stands out immediately with his 6'3", 245-pound frame and a red-hot motor that you look for in your DE/EDGE rushers. Watching Ayron's tape, I was really impressed with his ability to explode off the ball, using an electric first step and his lengthy reach to quickly create separation at the line of scrimmage and work his way into the opposing backfields. Shaw can bring speed off the edge, and he can use his lateral quickness to cut inside and win that way. Solid job setting the edge against the run. Big season incoming for the Jr. Jays defender!

Fillmore Central's [player_tooltip player_id='1085642' first='Preston' last='Komenda'] is a very interesting athlete who is proving to be one of the more versatile prospects in this class. Komenda stepped in nicely in his first full season as QB1 for the Panthers after throwing for 1,244 yards, 242 rushing yards, 13 passing touchdowns, and four rushing touchdowns. Even with little varsity QB experience, Komenda flashed the arm talent and athleticism to project well to the next level. One thing that stood out the most from Preston's tape was his ability to look off his first read and move through his progressions while making smart decisions about where to put the ball. He delivers a quick, accurate strike to his receivers and has some really impressive deep passes that he drops right in the bucket. You also get Komenda's athleticism and speed, which makes him a threat to extend plays outside of the pocket or tuck it and run it himself. Could also receive some looks on defense.

I wasn't able to find Hudl film of Boys Town's [player_tooltip player_id='1512466' first='Jayden' last='Cook'], but after watching him in person last fall, it's not hard to tell he will be a college prospect. We have Jayden listed as a DB, but he could also fit the role of a box safety/OLB with his willingness to drive downhill to defend the run and the ease with which he can drop into coverage. Cook is very rangy with sideline-to-sideline coverage and great closing speed when the ball is in the air. In coverage, Jayden does an excellent job using his ball skills to make a play on the pass. One underrated part of Cook's game is his ability to apply pressure to opposing backfields with his explosive rushing ability when firing off the edge. Great tackler with solid size to chop down his opponents (6'0", 180 pounds). Jayden ended his junior season with 37 tackles, five TFLs, two sacks, and an interception returned for a touchdown. Expect Jayden to play an even bigger role in 2025 with several key departures opening up opportunities.
