After posting mainly multi-positional reports on some of the best and the brightest the state has to offer the last few months, I shifted gears this week to circle back and check on the off-season progress to target for quarterbacks who have been catching my eye in the last year from around the state.

In this report, we will take look at three dual-threat quarterbacks who are primed and positioned for standout senior seasons this fall and then a pair of rising-star quarterbacks from the 2028 class who are getting ready to take that next step.

The guy at the top of the list enjoyed his breakout season last fall with a state championship and almost 2,000 yards of total offense and will be looking for a big encore later this year. The other four are coming off good seasons and have all the tools to take it to an elite level in 2025.

So without further adieu, let's take a closer look at five gunslingers getting ready to open fire this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1236247' first='Sam' last='Harp'] , 5'10, 195, Andale, '26, coming off an undefeated 3A state championship there is no resting on their laurels in Andale, as the pressure is always on to win state championships. And, as the dual-threat leader for the Indians there is that much more pressure on him to make sure they continue the unbeaten streak. Right now he is busy with track, running the 4x100 relay, and both the 300 and 110 meter hurdles. He has also been training for football and is getting ready to hit camps at K-State, KU and Missouri and will attend the Pitt State camp in July. Last fall he ran and passed for just under 2,000 yards and piled up 34 touchdowns despite generally playing less than half the game once locked up. As a runner he is lethal with great burst and lateral quickness running the RPO or on the designated run picking up 1,057 yards on 101 carries, and scored 21 TD's. In the air he was effective when he got his shot, completing 35 passes in 54 attempts for 813 yards, a 64% completion percentage and zero picks. Get your popcorn ready, this guy is going to put on a show this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1585747' first='Carston' last='Simmons'] , 6'1, 180, QB/DB, Pitt Colgan, '26, is coming off an excellent year and is starting to get some attention for his high-ceiling game. Last fall he was very efficient, completing 58 out of 96 passes for 1,040 yards, a 60% completion rate, 26 touchdowns running and passing, and only two picks. He also played some defense, coming out of the secondary to make 20 tackles and picked up a fumble recovery. Right now he is heavy into baseball as a pitcher and catcher on the high school team. He has been busy in the off-season as he just got back from a visit to Bethany and will be heading up to the Baker camp later this month. He is also hitting the weight training and speedwork on the side as well as working with ex-Pitt State and Utah State offensive coordinator, Dave Weimers, on his throwing and fine-tuning mechanics. He has put on some weight without losing speed and appears to be locked and loaded for a big year. Get out and see this guy dominate this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1578932' first='Kellen' last='Gibson'] , 6'1, 180, QB, Winfield, '26, he caught my eye early last year and as I watched his progression game over game it was obvious this guy was going to be a rising star QB. Right now he is busy in track and field and is turning out to be one of the best javelin throwers in the state, setting all-time school records and is currently ranked #1 in 4A. On the gridiron he is an athletic dual-threat quarterback who can burn teams running the ball or carving up secondaries with his strong arm. He is a big-time playmaker running the RPO or on the keeper, with the burst to hit the perimeter in a hurry and take it all the way to the house. Last fall he ran and passed for 1,400+ yards and 18 TD's, and impressively only threw a half-dozen picks. He started to show his potential throwing the ball last fall, and has continued to work in the off-season with QB Coach Brad Cagle, a former Southwestern College standout quarterback, and who now runs Midwest Passing Academy. Get ready for this guy to put together a dominating season for the Vikings this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1083571' first='Braxton' last='Wagner'] , 6'1, 185, QB, BV North, '28, first out of the chute for the 2028 quarterbacks is a guy who has been on everyone's radar and appears to be a rising star with all the tools to be a top quarterback. He is busy year around as a multiple-sport prospect who plays basketball and is currently playing baseball. He has a busy spring and summer mapped out ahead of him and is just returning from attending combines at Rivals and Under Armour where he performed well. He is also getting ready to hit camps at Kansas State, Kansas and Nebraska in the coming months. He is also getting with his receivers before school to work on timing in the morning and works on his throwing motion and mechanics with his quarterback coach. With the quarterback room loaded this fall he understands the challenge and has been working that much harder to be ready to shine. He has put on some weight and gotten faster and will be ready this fall. Get this guy on your watchlists as he is getting ready for a breakout season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1556844' first='Colton' last='Lake'] , QB, 5'10, 165, Olathe South, '28, and last but certainly not least, we have a young gunslinger who is starting to get some attention as a baller of a QB getting ready for a big season this fall. Right now he is still playing club basketball as a shooting guard or handles the ball on the point. He has also been training hard for football and is planning on attending the Baker camp later this month and then Kansas State in June. He is also looking into attending two additional camps and is in the process of finalizing the list. Last fall in freshman football he was a standout, passing for 17 touchdowns and ran for two touchdowns on the ground. As a passer he already has mature mechanics with a tight shoulder rotation and quick release. He has good ball placement on the short-to-medium passing game, but can dial up the long ball down the sideline or make the deep velocity throws on posts and comebacks. He works with a QB trainer five times a week to fine-tune mechanics in the pocket and on the move. This guy is going to sizzle this fall.

In conclusion, get out and see these guys hit it hard this fall – you will not be disappointed. Also, DM me via X if you know of any other players flying under the radar.
