CFI Carolinas MEGA Showcase Top Linebackers

The Charlotte Football Insiders (CFI) Carolinas MEGA Showcase brought over 270 athletes from all over the Carolinas and put them in front of over 25 colleges in order to be recruited and possibly offered college scholarships. CFI in the last 5 years has had over 100 players gain offers through exposure from their showcases and events. This analysis will focus on the top linebackers selected by the CFI Coaching Staff as Top Performers from the event.    i was really impressed with Michael, who goes by "Mikey" by most people. At his size, he moved really well as an inside linebacker primarily, and he showed really good coverage skills against backs and tight ends in 1 on 1s. His overall speed and agility were very strong and backup what I've seen on film from his All-Conference season last year. I think Mikey is poised to have a big season on defense for the Vikings this year.     I personally heard college coaches impressed with Lathan's performance in this showcase. It still surprises me why Lathan doesn't have more recruiting attention, but his time will come sooner than later as long as he keeps putting up strong showcase performances such as this one. Lathan's lateral movement is impressive and he showed a little bit of pass rushing promise to go along with his off-ball film that has looked good overall. Over 100 tackles last season with a good ability to play the run, Lathan also showed some coverage skills during the 1 on 1 period versus running backs.     Our highest rated 2028 linebacker came and did very well, showing his skills as an off-ball linebacker and a tackling machine on film. Lej'end has some early Division 1 offers and his overall speed and quickness were impressive to see up close, and backup what I saw when seeing him live late last season. Lej'end 's competitive spirit also showed a future defensive leader as well, a promising sign for such a talented young man overall.     Intensity is the best adjective I could use to describe Brenan, and that's a common trait that you see with a number of Weddington defenders throughout the years. Brenan competed well with all of his 1 on 1 reps and took coaching well throughout the entirety of the showcase. Good lateral movement through the agility circuit and individual drills were standout traits for Brenan as well. After the showcase, Brenan picked up his first offer from Hampden-Sydney College.     Excellent instincts are what Walter showed throughout all phases of the showcase. I was really impressed with how he changed direction and exploded out of his movements consistently throughout the day. I think right now he may fit best as an outside linebackers as he adds weight to be able to shed blocks consistently from a middle linebacker position. On film he likes to hit and gets to the football fast, so Walter has some excellent traits to keep growing into a strong player this upcoming season.     Playing for a great program and head coach in Joe Glass, I figured Carter would have a strong performance at the showcase and he did. With over 120 tackles last season, Carter's defensive instincts and agility were impressive throughout the day. Carter plays kind of an outside linebacker/rover role on film, so he did really well in the 1 on 1 portion of the showcase, covering running backs and tight ends well in pass coverage. Carter will provide some valuable leadership for a program that lost some great players to graduation last year.
