With some combines already taking place and camp season now just weeks away, prospects across the state are seeing an uptick in coverage. There are still however several that are lacking coverage throughout our rankings.

Similar to my report from last week I'll be doing another coverage counter piece. But this time, instead of featuring players from the Kansas City metro; this report will be highlighting prospects from all over the Sunflower State. More specifically we'll be taking a look at the Class of ‘28.

This group was added to the rankings not long ago but they slipped through the cracks in the previous update. Each of these prospects received varsity action in some capacity in 2024. This season though, don't be surprised to see their roles expand.

Class 4A

[player_tooltip player_id='1623229' first='Boston' last='Avery'] - Circle, 6'1”, 190, TE/DL

One of the bigger prospects from this group is Avery of Circle High. He was one of a few freshmen that contributed on Circle's defense during the ‘24 campaign. In nine games Avery collected 27 total tackles, three tackles for loss and one sack. He's categorized with the tight end group for now, but he could have success at defensive end in the future.

Class 2A

[player_tooltip player_id='1623226' first='Sullivan' last='Haverkamp'] - Nemaha Central, 6'0”, 180, ATH

Nemaha Central's ability to develop athletes doesn't get recognized enough. [player_tooltip player_id='780500' first='Carter' last='Hajek'] is arguably one of the most underrated players in the state, but the Thunder have more talented prospects waiting for their time to shine. Haverkamp is one of their young players capable of putting up numbers. He finished his freshman season with the second highest yards per carry on his team, and he racked up 31 total tackles.

Class 1A

[player_tooltip player_id='1620528' first='Logan' last='Boggs'] - Onaga, 5'10”, 165, DL

The 109th ranked player in the Class of ‘28 made a good impression on his coaching staff during his first varsity season. Boggs was one of a few freshmen that saw the varsity field for Onaga, and he was arguably their top young defender. He'd go on to rack up 24 total tackles, five tackles for loss and two sacks. It'll be interesting to see how the Buffaloes' staff utilizes Boggs during his sophomore year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1620515' first='Chase' last='Hastert'] - Cair Paravel, 5'11”, 165, QB

With Cair Paravel set to graduate their starter from last season, Hastert looks to be the top candidate to take over under center for the Lions. He doesn't have much film or stats from 2024, but he did put together a decent outing back in Week 4. Despite some struggles in that game, Hastert completed 11 of 20 passes for 203 yards and two touchdowns. That's not a bad statline for a freshman. Look for him to make improvements throughout this summer.

8-Man

[player_tooltip player_id='1620524' first='Riley' last='Kesinger'] - Atchison County, 5'10”, 140, DB

Despite the Atchison County Tigers having their share of struggles defensively in 2024, Kesinger showed some encouraging signs. He led his team with two interceptions, and recorded 30 total tackles with two forced fumbles. The freshman also hauled in two receptions, both being for 20 yards or more. He is currently ranked No. 105 overall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1623211' first='Deken' last='Girty'] - Flint Hills, 6'0”, 165, TE/DL

Girty was used often on both sides of the ball by Flint Hills during the ‘24 campaign. Offensively, Girty was primarily used as a blocking tight end, but he did manage to lead the Mustangs in receptions with 14. On the other side of the ball, he contributed 20 total tackles and two sacks. He is currently ranked No. 113 overall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1623215' first='Dominique' last='Paz'] - Rawlins County, 5'9”, 135, ATH

Paz is currently the 117th ranked prospect overall and the 18th ranked linebacker in the class. He was undoubtedly Rawlins County's top freshman defender in 2024. Paz posted 52 total tackles in 10 games, while also chipping in one sack, two pass breakups, and one forced fumble. He's an athletic prospect that is likely to see an increased workload on both sides of the ball during his sophomore year.

6-Man

[player_tooltip player_id='1623214' first='Aiden' last='Ochs-Lohrey'] - Otis-Bison, 6'0”, 160, LB

This group produced some solid defensive performances in 2024. However, Ochs-Lohrey of Otis-Bison arguably had the best season. The freshman led his team in tackles with 59 total, forced two fumbles, and came away with two interceptions. He'll definitely be an impact player for the Cougars this fall.
