He does a good job of playing as a deep safety. He does a nice job of reading the quarterback's eyes and making a play on the ball when it is thrown in his direction. He has a great understanding of passing concepts and how to play a deep zone to take away different passing lanes. He also does a good job in run support. When a ball carrier breaks through, he can make the tackle in the open field. At both positions, he also shows a good ability to tackle in the open field. Yan recently visited Carnegie Mellon University. He also runs good routes and does a good job after he catches the ball, with yards after the catch. As a cornerback, he has excellent coverage skills. He knows how to cover receivers, then gets his hands on the ball and breaks up passes. He can play both zone and man-to-man defense.
