It is an exciting time of the year when freshman grow closer to becoming sophomores. Kids bodies are changing drastically and the off-season is a huge time of year for development not only in the skills department but also physically. I look forward in seeing many of these 2028 kids participate in summer events in the coming months.

In this write-up I'll be showcasing five more 2028 prospects that not only produced as freshman but show the potential to be big parts of their programs this coming season. These kids will be hailing from such leagues as the Central Prairie, Southern Plains Iroquois, Hi-Plains and two from the Three Rivers League.

Not every freshman is as physically advanced as Porter but the 5-foot-11, 190-pounder has already showed his worth not only on the football field but also on the wrestling mat. This past winter he placed 6th in the Class 3A-2A-1A State Wrestling Meet in the 165-pound weight class. Finishing his freshman season with a 35-19 record.

When it came to football, he was an early contributor on a 8-2 Indian squad that barely fell short to the eventual state champs in Hoxie.

He had six receptions for 90 yards from his tight end position and also had 32 tackles (21 solo and 11 assisted), four tackles for loss, one interception and one fumble recovery from his safety position.

He was honored as Honorable Mention All Hi-Plains League at tight end. Definitely keep an eye out for Porter this coming season in both football and wrestling.

After having quite the prolific middle school career, Stuckey had himself a big freshman season. Even though he stands only 5-foot-5, 150-pounds currently, he packs quite the punch and shows very good athletic ability.

This past fall offensively he had 957 yards rushing on 169 carries and 10 touchdowns. Also a stand-out defender, he racked up 83 tackles (57 solo and 26 assisted) and five interceptions.

When it came to postseason honors, Stuckey was named Honorable Mention 8-Man I All-State as a running back and was a Second Team All-Central Prairie League performer in the secondary.

Kinsley looks to try to take the next step after having a quality season where they finished 6-3 and lost to Oxford in the playoffs. Stuckey will be a big reason if they take that next leap as a team.

Lawson is a part of a load Marmaton Valley squad that returns much of their impact players from a season ago. The 6-foot-3, 160-pound athlete helped the Wildcats to a 8-2 record and a eventual loss to Frankfort in the state playoffs.

His best football days are definitely ahead of him as he fills out his frame and steps more into a leadership role in the coming years. Keep an eye out on Lawson not only in the coming seasons but this off-season where he should take a big step in his development physically and skill wise.

In conclusion, be on the lookout for more studs from 8-Man ranks in future articles. Even though these prospects may just be entering their sophomore football season, they still deserve the early publicity and the attention of college coaches to get them on their radars for the future. Again, I'm always looking for unheralded or overlooked prospects to showcase. If you knows of anyone that fits that bill, reach out to me at @Coach_Mitchum on X.
