Spring Previews: Callaway v LaGrange

We are just a few weeks away from Spring football here in Georgia. Over the next few weeks, we will take a look at several big time Spring matchups and some of the players to put on your radars. Our first preview is LaGrange at Callaway on May 16th at Callaway.   The Callaway Cavaliers are coming off a 9-3 season in 2024. They went 5-0 in their Region, winning their 3rd straight Region Title. They advanced to the 2nd Round of the playoffs, losing a close contest to Stephens County 35-33. The Cavs return a lot of talent in '25 are expected to be in the State Title hunt in Class AA.   Players to Watch : Callaway    "Xae" has seen his recruiting pick up this offseason. He added a Mercer offer to an already list of D1 programs that have shown interest to this 6'1 215 LB this recruiting cycle. App State, Western Kentucky and Colorado State are among the 2 handfuls of programs that have extended an offer. According to his "X" account, he has locked in an official visit to Jacksonville State early in the Summer.   A physical ILB with great patience and athleticism. Has outstanding first step explosion and fights his way through blockers to get to the ball carrier. A nose for the football that recognizes and attacks with passion. PRZ has him ranked as the #21 LB overall in the '26 and this may prove to be a low ranking after the '25 season is done. Stock Riser.     The 1st Team GACA All State DL has seen his recruitment really pick up this off season. He has received a handful of interest from Mercer, Tennessee Tech, Colorado State and most recently Charleston Southern.   The 6'2 298 DT moves well for a big man, showing some good athleticism from the snap of the ball. A strong, physical guy that knows how to use his leverage to push OL backwards. Fitten is ferocious tackler that when he gets you wrapped up you are going to the turf.     The Cavs return their dual threat, multisport star, QB1 for the 2025 season. Harrington had a breakout 2024 year combing for over 2600 total yards and 32 TDs. Very athletic young man, is a Top 100 baseball player as well, that has quickness and agility to make guys miss in space. An outstanding game manager that exudes confidence and maturity on the field. He transitions that high 80's fastball over to the football field and puts some zip on the pigskin. 6'0 185 may not be the metrics for early recruiting buzz but Harringtons play on the field will get him some looks this Fall.     Rowe has the size the recruiters are looking for at 6'5 295. A good long and athletic frame that shows some athleticism and mobility at OT. The College level coaches have been impressed with what they have seen on tape this off season. Rowe has added recent offers from East Carolina, App St, Colorado State, and Georgia Southern, among others, over the last month. This fella is a diamond in the rough at the next level.    The Grangers had one of the more impressive runs last year in the post season, advancing all the way to the SF round. They were an offensive juggernaut in '24, scoring 38+ points per game in 10 of their 14 contests. The most glaring hole that they will have to replace in '25 is All State RB Malachi Fannin-Render that has moved on to Liberty. There is tons of talent on this squad and the Spring game should be very competitive.   Players to Watch- LaGrange Grangers    The 6'2 290 OL has flown under our radar here at PRZ but his has caught the attention of next level scouts this offseason. The 1st Team All State selection has received recent offers from Campbell and Navy.   Shattuck has the quickness and explosiveness off the LOS and will be a successful G at the next level. A competitive guy with a high motor that likes to mix it up in the trenches with a solid frame and good strength. You don't have one of the States leading rushers without guys upfront that can make holes.     Barber is a dual threat QB with a ton of athleticism. Is was a Top Performer last season at the Georgia Elite All Star Classic and led his team to the Semi Finals last Fall. A multisport athlete that plays PG on the basketball team and does a great job transitioning that vision and patience over to the football field. Not sure what position he will end up playing in college but he has the natural athletic ability to contribute at multiple spots. Liberty, Gardner Webb, USF, North Alabama and Georgia Southern are just a few of the schools that have extended offers this offseason.     I actually noticed Easter last August while doing a LaGrange v Douglass film study. The rising Junior LB impressed me then with his vision and his ability to come down hill quick and make plays. He has good patience and vision which combined with his natural athletic ability makes for a heck of football player. Easter is on the verge of breaking out as a Statewide name with UK and Georgia State already showing interest. Stock Riser.     The 6'2 175 WR/DB has the natural speed to be a big time player at the next level. Officially timed with a sub 4.4 40 and 10.7 in the 100m, Stringer can fly. He is not just a track guy, he is physical and displays outstanding ball skills on the football field. He has already received tons of interest with UGA and the University of Kentucky among the schools that have extended offers to this 4-star ATH. Great combo of natural speed and athleticism.    There are a lot of names not mentioned on this list that have next level talent in all classes. If you are in the West Georgia Area in Mid May this would be a Spring game you don't want to miss.
