Our first ranking for the state's 2028 class came out last week. Our first ranking update featured the top 25 players in the state's 2028 class. This list will continue to grow over the next three years. Every time we do a ranking update, we dive into prospect breakdowns following each release. In this breakdown, we're putting the spotlight on the five prospects that came into the last updated ranked #11 through #15. Two of these prospects already got plenty of playing time in 2024. The other three were behind other players but show tremendous upside moving forward. We wrote about the top five prospects earlier in the week and then we took a look at the five players from #6 to #10 overall. Keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma for more 2028 breakdowns!

Jenks quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='485894' first='Maddox' last='Young'] went back to Jenks for his freshman season and would wait for his turn behind a three year starter at the quarterback position. As we get closer to the spring, it's easy to assume that Young will be QB1 for the Trojans when they take the field this fall. But Young will need to earn the spot with his play on the field. And we're looking forward to seeing what he's able to do when the pads come on in the fall. We've seen Young go to work at countless 7v7 tournaments and he also earned MVP honors for the quarterback position at one of our camps last year. So from a pure arm talent perspective, Young has a lot of the tools to make him one of the better quarterbacks in the state. Now he just has to back up the hype in the fall.

Norman North quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1522514' first='Nash' last='Henry'] is in a very similar position to Young when it comes to his current evaluation and upside moving forward. The Timberwolves had a three-year starter at quarterback last year and he ended up signing with Washington State. If Henry absorbed everything he could while watching from the sidelines, he should be in a strong spot as Norman North takes the field in 2025. Again, it's easy to assume on the outside looking in that he'll be the QB1 for Norman North but he'll have to earn it. Henry has impressed us from what we've seen of him but it's a very limited sample size. Henry's upside is something to watch this fall. It will also help that he's going to have arguably the state's best wide receiver to throw the ball to this fall.

When you look back at the 2024 football season, there weren't many freshman wide receivers that had a better year than Broken Bow wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1599208' first='Dejhaun' last='Hall'] from a stat perspective. Hall would end up leading the team in receptions, yards and touchdowns. We got a chance to see Hall in person during one of their district games and Hall immediately passed the eye test from a physical standpoint. When you combine that with what he was able to do from a production standpoint, he's definitely going to be a player to watch. Hall already looks the part as a freshman so it's not crazy to think that he's not finished growing. Hall will also benefit from playing with one of the more electric quarterbacks in the state. There will be a lot of eyes on Broken Bow for the next two years.

Hugo running back [player_tooltip player_id='1522518' first='DK' last='Jeffries'] would end up being one of the more productive freshman running backs in the state during the 2024 season. Jeffries would run for more than 700 yards and nine touchdowns on the season. He would end up leading the Buffaloes in carries, rushing yards and was tied for the lead with their QB1 for rushing touchdowns. Jeffries had a breakout moment around the halfway mark of the regular season. He could not be stopped in their win over Heavener. He would go over 200 yards and four touchdowns in that game alone. He was incredibly productive throughout the 2024 season and we're looking forward to seeing his continued development. And Hugo should have a wealth of experience and production coming back on offense.

Bixby is one of the top programs in the state when it comes to producing linebackers. That's not really up for debate after looking at their track record over the last decade. [player_tooltip player_id='1167272' first='Cimone' last='Smitherman'] could end up being the next guy in that conversation for the Spartans. Smitherman is having to wait for his turn to have a significant impact on the varsity level. But we've been able to watch Smitherman go to work in several of our offseason camps and each time, he really looks the part physically. Smitherman looks good and should only get better from here. So similar to Young and Henry, there might not be as much to go off of right now with the Bixby linebacker but we're buying stock early because it looks like the ceiling is incredibly high moving forward.
